The Alloa Athletic Thread

Experienced or older players are still learning though, and have the desire to improve, particularly at this level. Even if personal circumstances mean they will remain part time. Playing part time requires a ton of commitment- to me that demonstrates a massive love for the game. And in competitive sport discovering ways to improve your skillset never really diminishes, whether the ambition is to reach the top level or not.

Will be a mixed bag of 1st team and reserves enjoy winning at Tannadice and advancing on to a potential trip to London, Ireland or wales, the one time it’s unclear if you beating us is a good thing or bad lol

Very hit or miss for us (rovers) last season and was mainly used as a winger.

When he was at it, he was direct and looked a real goal threat and chipped in with a few goals and assists. When he wasn't, he was dung. Typical winger I suppose.

He likes to dive ....... A lot!

The problem was that he is not very good at it and got a few yellows for his efforts.

would not be too bothered here either  especially as a part time team , we don't need all these fixtures ..

What is the Alloa view on Hartley ! On paper he did great but were there any little known or outside factors that contributed to his success that falkirk fans should be worried about !

He had a nice situation to inherit in a way as we had landed in Division 3 with a budget and infrastructure that should not have been at that level. He had a blank canvas and between his reputation and the budget he was able to attract players who were too good for Division 3. Built a great team who played great football and who were very fit, the players cleary bought into it. Lots of those boys grew as players under him. That season gave us great momentum and he kept it going with another promotion. Impressively, he tweaked it in the Championship and made us harder to beat and had us 4th at Christmas. Obviously knew it wasn't sustainable and bailed out.

I thought he'd have done better since. Was looking good at Dundee initially before he lost some key players. Some questions over his signings and perhaps lack of flexibility with formations. Way too early for Falkirk fans to be writing him off though, there is certainly a good manager in there. Deserves a chance to see how his signings settle.

Hartley done a great job at Alloa the first real sign of trouble and a sustained period of difficult results on top of having his head turned by Inverness Caley Job which he never got he threw the towel in. As stated has done ok for a period at Dundee then its been downhill ever since.
