The Alloa Athletic Thread

Dunfermline, by Christ. Bit of a scunner that he's ended up at one of our relegation rivals.

Still, full-time football and that. Hope he does well, but mysteriously can't find his shooting boots at the Recs  :whistle

I've never been particularly fond of McManus I'd have to admit and that could be clouding my judgement. However, if he had been playing up front for Alloa last season I don't think he would have brought as much to the team as O'Hara did. Not convinced he'd have scored as many goals in our team either. More consistent fair enough, he has had a few decent seasons compared to O'Hara's one excellent 3/4 of a season. But if O'Hara can maintain that form then he brings pace, strength, goals, and a ferocious workrate. I don't think McManus has as many attributes. Agree that they might do well together.
I saw McManus a few times for Falkirk last season and he was excellent. We'll see how they do at Dunfermline - both seem to be confidence players, so whoever gets among the goals early may go on to have the better season.

Of course Kevin is going there with the added weight of the Dean Shields incident on his shoulders. I hope he wins the fans over quickly.

Good luck to both of them as ex-Wasps.

O'Hara had flattered to deceive at Falkirk much of the time. He burst into the side at 17yo IIRC and looked like a real prospect with that pace he has, but he couldn't get among the goals - I know, hard to believe given his record at Alloa and the variety of goals he scored for us.

Falkirk have been a bit of a mess, obviously, for the last few years and I expect that didn't help Kevin. Not sure they played him in his best position, a issue which Peter Grant certainly got right at Alloa. I think Peter has to take a lot of credit for the was Kevin performed in the black and gold. I've heard he's a really nice lad (my daughter-in-law taught him at high school).

It was hard to believe the Fawkirk fans who didn't rate him when he came here looking back now , if used properly he will be good for you .

Nicky Jamieson is heading to Alloa from QP. Good centre-half, spotted by Grant Jnr.

Alloa have won a watch if jamieson has signed for them. Got all the attributes to be a top player at this level, great in the air, good pace and his distribution is outstanding but doesn’t take risks on the ball either.

Was genuinely gutted that he was let go as myself and a few other QP fans thought he was player of the season. There were suggestions that work commitments may have resulted in him not being able to take up full time at QP but also others saying he was just let go.

Good luck to him if it’s true

Been meaning to ask this for a while; for years now, there's been a wee white van that occasionally drives around Alloa on Saturdays, absolutely covered in 'Freemen on the Land' type slogans that they've presumably paid money to have decaled, and broadcasting paranoid, incoherent ramblings on loudspeaker, like politicians used to do on election days. He's out again today, seems to have added a few anti-Black Lives Matter slogans, and is filling the town with recordings of sheep bleating.

Does anyone know who/what this is all about? I'm...err...'interested' in his ideas and would like to subscribe to his newsletter. Mainly so I know when he's planning on going on a rampage so I can be out of town.

I quite fancy being radicalised. Sensible normality is so dull.

MacKinnon didnt want to keep him on (I obviously have opinions of Ray but, even putting those aside thats madness). The work stuff came after as he was gutted  not to get a deal and ready to chuck it. Championship football is too hard to resist and, personally, could see him being a cracking player at Alloa.

Ha, I've heard this guy. Not for a long time mind you. You just hear a snippet of something mental and then he drives away. Don't know if it'd be more or less worrying to hear it all.

Basically, conspiracy cranks that claim the law a country runs under is purely optional and you can ignore as you see fit.

That'll be yer Alloa Athletic season tickets available to buy.

I know most folk will be already aware, but I wouldn't have been if I hadn't thought to check the website just now. £170/£115/£40, with a family ticket for £200. Not bad when you consider the streaming's thrown in (or possibly all there'll be, depending on life). Hopefully this becomes a permanent addition now.

He was out again in the Baamobile today. The wean got a good laugh out of it, at least.

Also, will you be doing live commentary for the games, or is it camera duties only?  :P

The streaming (domestically) will be discontinued as soon as crowds are allowed. The rules preventing domestic streaming have only been suspended while people can't actually go to games. There's every chance if we've no 2nd lockdown that there will be no streaming at all.

Honestly don't know how it'll work yet. Need to work on the live commentary to be honest. Everything I do is in post.

Won't be on the camera as its an AI system. It's getting installed on Thursday so after that I'll have a better idea what I can do.

That doesn't seem to be Alloa's understanding going by the update on the club site. Rules preventing domestic streaming should be binned anyway, if there is a system in place and people are paying to watch the game it should be allowed.

Season ticket holders will also get priority access to games once social distancing measures are relaxed but will also have the additional access to online streaming should they not be able to attend games i.e. due to work or family commitments until the end of the season.

As long as you're comfortable with people not coming to Alloa games because they're sitting at home watching Man Utd or whatever.

Yeah, what @craigkillie said. Rules banning domestic streaming are there for a reason and removing them would be the death of professional football at this level.

I agree the Alloa statement appears to suggest it will be available all season but I dont think thats correct. Our statement says its only while supporters are not allowed and other clubs I have read seem to suggest the same. Its not logical to allow otherwise to be honest.

Its not being installed on Thursday, they are only conducting initial site surveys at all Championship clubs Wed to Friday in 2 hr slots. Actual installation will be in the week or two following somewhere I think.

I'm fine with that, I don't think we are competing with Man Utd for fans. If people are looking at it as a straight contest between quality of football, profile and glamour etc then we have no chance. Those people are lost to us regardless of games being streamed online. We need to stand out for different reasons, ie local identity and community involvement.
