Malaysia Airlines flight MH370

Recommended Posts

I often notice that passport check staff abroad just have a look at your photo, give you stamp and then send you on your way through.

The UK border on the other hand seem to go all MI6 on your ass. Different story with the general UK airport staff outbound though. Quick look to see if passport name matches name on ticket at check in desk, hands over boarding card, through you go to plane without another passport check sometimes if staff are running all over the place at last minute.

I'm sure this missing flight will be less suspicious however. I'll go for alien abduction which nobody on the news has suggested yet. They'll be back home with a probe up their arse this time next week.

Usually the only thing people are interested in out here is visas or onward tickets rather than the passport itself when leaving a country. Comes from the fines the Airlines get if they allow a passenger to arrive without a visa/onward journey. I've been travelling in and out of the Philippines for over a year on a fake onward ticket, I just change the dates with photoshop. No one ever checks and I'm fucked if I'm buying a ticket just to cancel when I arrive. I think I'll have to not do that anymore.

I can see China canceling the 72 hour visa waiver for onward journeys now.

I wish the media would stop saying "it could have been a catastrophic failure" Aeroplanes don't have catastrophic failures...lazy jurnolisim.

How can an aeroplane not have a catastrophic failure? I know there are plenty of redundant systems on aircraft these days, but certain things cannot be accounted for. Planes are far from perfect and AS9000 criteria does leave certain gaps in manufacturing.

It's obvious that the plane has been hijacked by four Vietnamese criminals who specialise in selling human body parts on the black market. One of the hijackers has clearly rolled down the co-pilot's passenger side window and climbed onto the roof to disengage the plane's tracker system before flying the jet into a pre-planned airstrip in a clearing in the forests of South Vietnam.

Either that or it's crashed.

I remember there was a similar mystery when that Air France flight went missing on it's way from Brazil a few years ago. That was in the middle of the Atlantic, so it is understandable how it took a while for the wreckage to be found. This one is bizzare though, as you would imagine that there would be loads of vessels in the sea near Vietnam.

From David Learmount Chief editor of Aviation and expert in flight saftey...

"The likelihood of this having been something catastrophic having happened to the aeroplane, just forget it. It wasn't that. Catastrophic things do not happen to modern aeroplanes. They just don't."

Because they dont know where it is.

I'm sure if it was a North Korean 'fishing' boat carrying 'WMD' they'd find it soon enough.

Satellites take photos and I'm pretty sure not all of them are taken in the 'visual' spectrum, got to be some gadget that can at least differentiate between water and a solid object surely?

I've obviously watched too many Hollywood movies.

Somebody better tell this guy about the Air France crash a few years ago, it allegedlly crashed because of dodgy speedometer FFS!!

I doubt that this was a catastrophic failure, but the statement above is absurd (not yours but the 'experts') . The likelihood of a catastrophic failure is slim these days but not impossible and along as there are human elements involved, catastrophic failure is possible, mostly through structural failure, sheering, and system failure. Up until a few years ago, every item going on a plane (even nut bolts and screws) had to have some certification, usually CAA. However, with the advent of AS9000 and the acceptance that a finished unit can be AS9000 approved rather than every component, leaves room for failure.

There are more specifications for cars than aircraft.

a dodgy speedo is not a catastrophic event FFS! ..pilot error brought that plane done nothibg else.

#

That's my point, the fault doesn't need to be 'catastrophic', it only needs to stop the plane from flying normally.

And you should know by now it's ALWAYS pilot error......despite the fact in almost every incident there are one or two mechanical faults it's the dead guys fault!

As has been highlighted there was nothing majorly wrong with the plane. The pilot acted in the completely wrong fashion which resulted in a plane crash. The cockpit had to take full blame for that crash. They realised the error but sadly too late.

If the speedometer on your car malfunctions mid journey you can assess your speed in many other ways. You dont simply crash into the central reservation and then blame your Ford while picking bits of metal from your skull.

What ? like bombs ? ... or being flown into buildings ? Both fairly catastrophic things yes !?

yes but they are not catastrophic machine failures !

Im referring specifically to media speculation that the machine catastrophically failed causing the plane to fall out the sky or disintigrate in the air....this doesnt happen in mordern planes.
