Al B
We had to say goodbye to my mums wee cat this afternoon. 18 years old and has been an absolute star that whole time. Health started to deteriorate in the last year, arthritis and kidney issues...progressing very slowly but things that would never get better. Had a wee final boost of life last summer whilst the weather was really good, and then sadly really started to go downhill quickly in the last 3/4 weeks as issues started to affect his breathing and respiratory health. He was in no chronic pain or distress but things were going to continue at the same rate, and he definitely would have been within the next few weeks. We'd have been left with the same decision to make, the only difference would have been having added a couple weeks of pain for him. We decided to let the little legend go out with the dignity that his life deserved, and not to put him through that just because we couldn't let go. Rest easy Finn, and thank you for spending your time here with us

Rest easy Finn, and thank you for spending your time here with us Thank you for doing the best thing, we learned years ago that sometimes waiting isn’t the answer. Unfortunately that cat had a few days of pain before he left us, but it meant our 18 y-o tabby avoided the same thing when she went into a sharp decline. It’s a very difficult thing to do, but it’s the right thing! Sorry for your loss.
House Bartender
@Al B. Lady from SSPCA pointed out to us that when you're faced with that decision, it's not the length of the cat's life that's important, it's the quality. Sounds like your Mum's wee beastie qualified on both levels.

Alert Mongoose
It never gets easy @Al B. Right decision no matter how hard. This little shite wolfs down his food then starts on his sister's so tried to move her upstairs so she could eat in peace.

Nice.

Hard to believe he has just turned 1 and is a year old than his sister (same mum).

TxRover
So I’m sitting on the sofa, browsing P&B, and hearing a strange sound. Wondering if it’s the neighbours when I realize it’s the cat (across the room) snoring!

Alert Mongoose
Had to rescue the poor mouse being tag teamed. He is not bad but she (mainly white) gets a mouse at least every second day - tried a bell but no avail. She was born on a farm so guessing that her mum was quite good at training them early. Aye, one of ours took to jumping up top of the shower and sleeping up on top of the wall between the bathroom and shower. You’d be taking a shower and get that feeling…look around and then up, and she’s watching you, closely. Salvo Montalbano
Never usually post here but one of ours looks like age has finally caught up with her and the vet thinks she needs put to sleep due to a large tumour in her mouth. She's 17 so had a good innings, but as you can imagine the wife is in bits. Got her and her brother as rescue cats when they were about 9 months old. Anyway, here she is in happier times.

Great pic, looks like she's a concert pianist. All the best, tough times.
