Just seen an online article from a November issue of the Midlothian advertiser. Haven't previously seen any of mention of it on this site so thought I'd paste the article. Within the East juniors, specifically the South Division (essentially the old Lothian), there are only 14 teams instead of the desired 16, in part because of Spartans withdrawing their juniors to put their reserve side in the EOS. Essentially this could be a straight swap.

Easthouses Lily hope to leave the East of Scotland League (EOS) and join the Juniors set-up as part of big plans at the Newbattle club.

They were left frustrated after a number of teams left the EOS in the summer to join the newly-formed Scottish Lowland League – a future feeder league for the SPFL.

Chairman David Arthur revealed that they have made enquiries with the Junior set-up.

He said: “We asked the Juniors what options were available to join. They were very impressed with our plans.”

These include new changing facilities and some landscaping at the Newbattle Complex to tie in with their recently installed floodlights.

A wee bit like Brantwood joining the Ballymena and Provincial League in your part of the world? Think they are being realistic about where they fit in in the big scheme of things and this would provide them with scope for lots of local derbies against teams like Newtongrange Star, Dalkeith Thistle, Arniston Rangers, Tranent, Bonnyrigg Rose and Penicuik.

Providing of course neither these teams want a shot at the lowland ;)

apparantly this is not longer happening, Easthouses are staying in the EOS league?

Can ANYONE tell me what will happen to the Lily when the new Newbattle High is build in the next year? The plans for the new high school are smack bang on the Lilys pitch, which they have only just added fencing, trees and changing rooms to!?!?

Think they have been promised a like for like replacement if there current set up isn't integrated in some way into the new build.

And added floodlights too, of course.

Is the school going on top of their park, though? According to this map from the Midlothian Council website, the new school building would be immediately east of their ground:

(Article the PDF orginated from: http://www.midlothian.gov.uk/info/200254/new_schools/1207/replacing_newbattle_community_high_school/4)

This image appears to concur, showing their pitch being retained but enhanced by an artificial surface.

But this one appears to show half the school - 'community' part - being built on top.

Has the latter prevailed?

HibbeeJibbee

I was told by easthouses that the ground would remain- There pitch is in the blue zone, the top right one.

Juniors seem to me to be a better bet for easthouses, lowland league has taken all the better teams from eosl

Say a number of EOS clubs did make the move, to LL or to the Juniors, the standard of EOS will be no more than the amateurs.

Going through the teams in the EOS premier, only Tynecastle play their games on a public park. In order for a club like Tynecastle to become ready for LL (or the Juniors say) it would require massive investment.

The other clubs will no doubt have additional expenses to comply with the rules, but their current grounds could be tailored to meet the rules.

Not sure on the massive investment thing at least to get into the juniors. New Elgin and Inverness City's entries on Nonleague Scotland provides an idea of what is needed to make a public park pitch OK for junior football. Until relatively recently junior clubs were still playing on public parks in that part of the country. 15k is the sort of number I've seen for sorting that out if a set of changing rooms are already available.

Fochabers even seem to be able to get away without a pitch perimeter fence:

Tynecastle pitch is a joke for a Senior league - it's a public park with a rope round and they can't charge entry. God knows why they invested in that place. Any Tyne supporters able to advise ?[/

They charged when Gretna played there.

talk of Berwick and hibs leaving eosl - better off in the juniors

Easthouses are an old Junior club anyway, or at least a derivative of them, as are Ormiston of course (former Junior Cup Finalists). Peebles Rovers had a stint in the 70's as well. Burntisland are in the middle of Junior territory.

Given the way the EoS is going, maybe more than Easthouses are thinking of a move?

The ground at Newbattle complex has pitch perimeter fence also new changing rooms have been completed and are situated behind one of the goals.

There is also a large perimeter fence to enclose the ground, floodlights were installed just over a year ago. Plans are in place for a covered enclosure however at the moment there is a grass banking down one side of the pitch were most spectators watch the games.
