Great post Mr F nice to see a bit of fiction instead of facts

May all your dreams come true

I always though most of what appears on this forum was Fiction!

As a side question I vaguely remember a game in the mid 90s when Alan Smith of Arsenal played at Adamslie think it was a charity match? Any memories of this RRG? And who played? Was it Rob Roy v a select? I can remember it was advertised in the Cue Ball.

Was it against an Arsenal XI? I remember Paul Dickov was playing.

Kilsyth Rangers played at Garrell Vale from 1913 till Sept 1939 when the Scottish Junior league was suspended at the outbreak of WW2.

The location was where the present Sportsfield is right at the end of the road running through the industrial estate.

Haugh park, the home of Kilsyth Emmett, also a SJL club, was side by side with it.

Duncansfield was developed during the war years with the first game in Sept 45. I believe St Rochs were the opposition with around 4000 present.

A few games had been played at the ash park at the Miners welfare recreation ground at Burngreen. This was the home of Kilsyth Wanderers, at one time a senior club although never members of the Scottish League. I think they held on as a juvenile club for a year or two after WW2.

Kilsyth St Patricks played at the sportsfield as a fairly successful juvenile club for many years and today it is the home of Kilsyth Amatuers.

There is also now a full size floodlit 3g pitch on the site which we use for training.

Interesting read even if it is on a Rabs thread

I will need to ask one of the guys at the Roy coz I'm definite there was a big game and if Dickov and Smith played it could well have been an Arsenal XI. I'm sure it was around 1995. I will investigate and feedback on this.

Go past lidl as if heading towards Duncansfield but don't turn right just go straight to the end of that Road and that's where the Sportsfield is now

Thanks RRG, he was a bit worried about our recent goalkeeping problem and did offer to play in goals. Think he was gutted when JC signed and took away his dream of playing for the RABS. He often speaks to Big Davie about tactics so we'll see if he can arrange a team for the opening.

Actually, I haven't spoken to Darren this week. Guess he's waiting for our usual Sunday post match chat.

He is however keen to keep up the NERRL connection so who knows we might see him grace green at the new stadium?

Davie you look awfully wee in that picture.

I think Darren Fletcher has links with the junior game in midlothian and Newtongrange star, I think relatives are involved or something and he has been at a game or two.

Incidentally star have a cracking set up was very impressed with it when we visited almost 5 years ago (Christ time flies ).

Remember your rattle, get you over next to bigtatties! That would be good and probably better than the football watching you two trying to outdo each other.

Did a bit of digging on website , i was wrong wasn't 1928 ....

Adamslie Park was officially opened on 7th August 1926 by Provost John Shanks.

Petershill have the honor of winning the first game on Rob Roy's Adamslie Park.

Here's the 'Sunday Post' article on the opening game. Wee report, and another piece.

It says the crowd was 6,000 and the capacity was 30,000...!!

The site I thought was going to be the new ground is now a primary school, going to be further along or has it been canned?

Edit, just read article in Kirky Herald, new site appears to have been proposed along from the school.
