Viz's Profanisauras defines the "Barse" as being another word for the perineum (the rather useless area between the anus and scrotum). Other names include the "Taint", "Biffin's Bridge" and the ABC (Arse-Bollock Connector).

In the Christian Calendar, the period of time after Boxing Day and before Hogmanay is traditionally a bit of a no-man's land. While most people are off work - which is a cause for celebration - there is no specific holiday to celebrate. Thus in 1957, Pope Pius XII declared the intervening period between Christmas and New Year as being the "Barse" festival.

This is a very long-winded way of saying there is a special Cup Quiz starting tomorrow! It's a one-off 51 question quiz that you can do at any point over the next 7 days. However, unlike the Daily Quiz / Tynie lotteries, there are ZERO multiple-choice questions. A link to the quiz with full instructions will be provided tomorrow. But in the meantime, if you want to increase your chances of winning, you might want to read about everything that's ever happened to anyone anywhere.

What do the locals think of the Mon-Fri half day change?

Ummm....'mixed'  :) . I thought it was an  Most controversial is the Friday arrangements - Government workers will be doing Mon - Thu with a half day on Friday morning, finishing at noon. That means Friday prayers have been fixed for just after one o'clock rather than moving through the year with the sun.  Sharjah, which is the most conservative Emirate, have said "nup" to that and they're going for a four day week with a full day off on Friday.  And all this is only law for Government workers, private companies don't have to change but "it is expected that most will".  And some are, some aren't and some are just going for a 'normal' Mon-Fri work pattern.  But this is just normal when rules change here, there's a settling in period while everyone figures out how the new rules are actually being applied.  And of course, the biggest question is still unanswered until next week - what happens to Friday brunches? 😟

Oh, and 9/10 for Monday, getting Bond wrong yet again.  Changed my answer from the right one too.
