Here is a picture of Scottie eating breakfast, at 11.30 am

Please allow me to rant just to get this off my chest, before I met my now wife she was living in our current apartment with her sister (after her cousin bailed and she needed someone quick to spilt the rent with) After going out for 6 months my lease was expiring so I moved in with my wife and sister-in-law, which made the rent a little easier in a city with silly rent costs.

Wife and I had already decided we wanted a dog, so back in 2016 took our time researching breeds etc, we put a lot of time and thought into getting a dog, we couldn't have picked better, our wee Saint is easy to look after, well trained and friendly unless she thinks we need protecting. One day while I'm at work my wife texts me to say the breeder had been in contact with everyone saying one pup from the litter hadn't be claimed and my sister in law was going to take her, my heart actually sank. I told my wife judging by the way she "looks after" her cat, we would end up looking after two dogs, no she insists my sister will do everything for her own dog. So of course we trained our dog, showered her with love, took her on big long walks in the park. Sister in law would lay on the couch, on her phone and occasionally reach down to get a half hearted pet to Scottie, dog barely went outside (this was pre toilet training) and developed separation anxiety. Sister in law told us not to train her so she could do it and she would show her more love. Even after training both dogs to pee and poop outside, Scottie was still pishing and shitting in the apartment, she also liked to eat her own shit. On days when all three of us were working, I was always first home which meant coming home some nights to clean piss and half eaten shit off the couch or wherever Scottie had taken it to eat in comfort before getting both dogs ready to take outside, which in a Canadian winter means jackets and boots for each dog. Thankfully she no longer shits in the house and since I work from home at the moment it's rare that she is home alone but she still pisses on the floor if we leave her alone for more than 10 minutes, we still have puppy training pads at least.

Now my wife and I have a 4 month old baby, which is obviously a lot of work so my own dog has gone down on my priority list and Scottie even further, I thought. But no, I will get up at 7, take my dog out and feed her before I start work at 8. Sister in law will stumble out of bed later, begrudgingly take her dog out, if it's cold or raining it seems like she take Scottie out just long enough to pee and gets her back inside, which means when I have to take her out at 5 I have to deal with her runny shite and her yelling, because nothing is easy with Scottie, she screams like she is in pain when she takes a shit, vet can not figure it out and a specialist costs a lot of money (which I'm sure sister-in-law could save if she quit smoking, but that's another rant). Now our dogs have a bad habit which is our fault, they won't eat unless we sprinkle liver treats on top of their kibbles, sometimes sister in law will come back in in the mornings and make the effort to put kibbles in Scottie's bowl then go back to her bedroom, others she doesn't do even that, most days, even though I'm clearly trying to work I have to feed Scottie and or sprinkle the liver treats, Scottie also gets laxative mixed with frozen pumpkin to try and make her bowel movements a bit easier, she still screams every shit though. You have to wait till Scottie has actually started eating, otherwise the pumpkin gets left and melts, even though we can all clearly hear Scottie eating and even with my wife and I dropping hints like "good girl Scottie eating your dinner" It's usually always me getting up to the freezer and giving her pumpkin.

The wife and I's plan is to move out by the end of this year but I'm genuinely worried about Scottie's well being after she doesn't have me there. Sister in law was joking about how bad of a dog owner her train wreck of a pal is, took everything in my power not to blurt out "shame she doesn't have a brother in law to look after her dog"

So here is a picture of Scottie eating breakfast at 11.30 after coming back in this morning at 10ish and her "owner" sitting in her room on her phone. Thank you for reading my rant.

That sounds pretty rotten. Would SiL consider rehoming if you moved out do you think?

We have a friend with a labrador who's an absolute mess. He's about half the age of Skye but looks and acts like he's twice her age.  Sometimes I do wonder if it suits some folk to have an unhealthy dog.

I think she would consider "rehoming" her with us but that's not happening.

It's heartbreaking seeing mistreated dogs, I see one in our area all the time who always look mangy as f**k, dry shite on their backside etc, our dog always wants to say hello but I have my doubts it's ever been vaccinated and I'm sure my dog caught a cough from it before so I avoid them.

That's a shite state of affairs mate what a lovely wee dog, stuff like this makes me very angry - having a dog should be treated as a pleasure not a chore, you need to have a very serious word with her but it doesn't sound like it will have an impact, whatever way you look at it it's neglect and she simply shouldn't be allowed any kind of pet. If you can't take the dog yourself then you should immediately start looking to re-home Scottie but make sure you're vigilant and you get the perfect owner otherwise the poor wee thing will end up with another useless owner.

I seriously hope he bites you in the nuts!!! Poor Renton.

He loves a jumper and will bark at you to put one on him then stands and lifts each paw in turn to help put it on. He has no flesh on him so feels the cold.
