SHOW US YOUR DOGS!

This is Nugget. More a description than a name if I am being honest. AKA Nug the Dug. Had her for 10 years now and she was a rescue dog. They told us she was 18 months old but judging by how much she has grown we think she was nearer 12 months old when we got her. Used to enjoy long walks around Ayr when I went home but she gets puffed oot walking around the local football pitch now. Had all manner of problems training her but she is finally too old to be arsed doing anything outrageous these days though we do get some protest nicking of things when we go out and leave her for an hour.

Thanks buddy.

Shes a wee cracker. She had spent this afternoon playing with my fiances parents dog (Dexter the golden Retriever) and her aunties dog (small, not sure what type).

She seems to have a lovely happy nature about her. Shes playful without being annoying. The breeder did a fantastic job socialising her before we picked her up.

I've never been much of a dog person but I absolutely love her.

(I reserve the right to change that in the middle of the night when she's howling in her cage ;) )

Don't mean to be argumentative but why do you keep your dog in a cage? I've heard of a few people doing this but just seems unnecessarily cruel to me, especially overnight so they can't get up and move about to even get a drink or anything.

Oor dug goes in and oot it's crate when ever he wants, it's never locked. It's his wee space/cave kinda thing where he can have his own space/feel safe etc.

Some folk use them if dugs going to left in all day and they don't want it chewing furniture or wrecking the place.

No need to explain why you're asking, I actually thought the same thing initially but I read up on it alot and it seems to be all down to toilet training. Dogs won't go to the toilet in an area where they're sleeping.

I get up and let her outside if she makes any noise during the night and she goes out to pee, poo or can get a drink.

Shes only up once (maybe twice) in a night. If she had the run of the house she'd just pee and poo everywhere.

She actually likes her cage, it's in our bedroom and she happily goes in at night when she's tired.

I won't use it long term though, just till she's toilet trained.

I did consider taking the door off the cage when she's toilet trained and keeping it as her safe place as she seems to love it.

Jake on the left is 12yo, we got him from the Dogs Trust after his story left us near in tears. He'd belonged to an old couple along with another dog but the wee wifie died suddenly along with the other dog. The man couldn't keep him as he had to move into sheltered housing. He was 9 when we got him and at 12 he still enjoys his hill walking. He's a very well behaved (if somewhat horny) wee guy.

The one on the right we tend to just refer to as "bad one". We got her from the SSPCA and were told she was pretty much the dream dog, the reality being she's a massive pain the arse. It felt like she didn't know how to walk on a lead, she goes mental at the sight of other dogs wanting to play with them and won't come back if you call her so has to be on her lead all the time in public. In saying that she's great fun and a big cuddle-beast. She was taken from Cyprus after being marked for being put to sleep at a few months old.

Both times we just went to the kennels "for a quick look".

Ah right I see. If it's a toilet training thing then fair enough. If the dog seems to love it then taking the door off and leaving it there sounds ideal!

My dog must be the expectation to the "dogs won't go to the toilet in an area where they sleep"

Our dog sleeps in the kitchen and the first night we kept her in the cage. The next morning was a disaster area. We had left a puppy pad in the cage with her but she had crumpled that into her bedding and she was covered in her own muck the poor bugger. Needless to say the cage was swiftly removed and pads were just left on the kitchen floor. I was told that after 6 months they just click, and I have to say I found this to be the case. She has the odd accident but I put that down to her being a very clingy and timid dog so it's more out of fear than anything else when we go away.

Daft as a brush but really is a great dog to have around the kids. They adore her. She just had her summer haircut and you see all sorts of colours in her coat. When she was a pup she was Jet black (hence the name). f**k knows what I'd have called her if she was this state to begin with

I fucking hated that when my pup was tiny and everyone stopped to talk him. Took to wearing sunglasses and earphones (with no music playing) everytime we left the house so I could stroll right past folk without looking like an ignorant b*****d.
