~~~ Posted November 29, 2013 Share Posted November 29, 2013 Gordon Smart of the Scottish Sun on Sky News saying it was a Police helicopter. Its the Sun and Sky so i wouldn't hedge my bets on it being correct but they might get it right for once. Makes sense, i'm sure its only the police who use the local helipad 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
one m in Motherwell Posted November 29, 2013 Share Posted November 29, 2013 Some folk on twitter saying it was a police helicopter? Do they use the same helipad down by the SECC? 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Gibby82 Posted November 29, 2013 Share Posted November 29, 2013 I've stayed in the hotel across from that pub before. Right on the Clyde. Maybe the pilot was aiming for a crash landing on the river but fell short. 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
one m in Motherwell Posted November 29, 2013 Share Posted November 29, 2013 Doesn't look like there's been a fire, judging by what's going around so far, thank god. 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Jamie_B Posted November 29, 2013 Share Posted November 29, 2013 You can see the chequered black and yellow bit sticking up in that pic-that's pretty much unique to Scotland's only police helicopter. 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Reina Posted November 29, 2013 Share Posted November 29, 2013 I'm told there was a gig going on in the pub. Sounds awful. :-( 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Ned Nederlander Posted November 29, 2013 Share Posted November 29, 2013 It's nearly always tail rotor failure Gordon smart said it was spiralling Quite possibly was then ! 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Lisa Cuddy Posted November 29, 2013 Share Posted November 29, 2013 Watched a police helicopter hovering about that area an hour ago and wondered what was going on. That photo up there doesn't make it look too bad, thankfully. 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Ned Nederlander Posted November 29, 2013 Share Posted November 29, 2013 Engine spluttering according to eyewitness on BBC news - fell from a great height at great speed ! 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Lisa Cuddy Posted November 29, 2013 Share Posted November 29, 2013 blimey- hope everyone is ok. Hmm, that one looks a bit worse actually. If Scotland only has one police helicopter, I wonder what one that was I saw this evening? It was circling around that area and then came over this direction (east) after the time this would have happened, I think. 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Marsh Posted November 29, 2013 Share Posted November 29, 2013 Surely if the rotors were still spinning there would be some serious casualties?? 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Derek Patterson Posted November 29, 2013 Share Posted November 29, 2013 If it was spinning when descending then sounds like perhaps the pilot tried to use a bit of autorotation. The fact it didn't catch fire on impact suggests they had some control in it's descent. 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
