Teacher from The Perse School sacked for kissing pupil in Cambridge nightclub

Written byGARETH MCPHERSON

A teacher at one of the country’s top-performing private schools was sacked for kissing a sixth form student in a Cambridge nightclub.

The Perse member of staff was celebrating his birthday in a city nightspot at the time of the “chance encounter” with one of the school’s female upper sixth students, who was partying with friends following the leavers’ ball.

But it got back to the headmaster of the school in Hills Road, Cambridge, and the teacher was sacked following a governors’ disciplinary hearing.

The sixth former is thought to have been 18 at the time, but the age of the teacher is not known.

Terror in the new Olympia in Dundee

A section of pool at Dundee’s new multi-million-pound Olympia swimming centre has been closed after a woman apparently trapped her toe under a loose tile. The incident, which left the woman in tears according to witnesses, happened as she tried to leave the Olympia’s activity pool following the shallow water aerobics class on Wednesday night. Another woman who attended the class said that she “felt the tiles moving” while she was in the pool and was now “scared to go back”.

Loose tiles, serious business.

Terrorist thread for this imo.

Perth City Hall cherubs wing landed up in stonemasons garden

18 January 2014 10.32am.

The cherubs that crown Perth City Halls front elevation are beloved by some and derided as trash architecture by others including Strathmore Councillor Alan Grant.

He has dubbed them putti rather than cherubs, in light of their missing wings, and has claimed that they were never there in the first place.

One of the missing appendages has, however, now been brought to light by retired stonemason Andy Bett.

He said the wings were removed by the firm of Brand of Perth on the insistence of the council around 60 years ago, on health and safety grounds.

Mr Bett, now 75, said he was a 15-year-old apprentice when he watched them being removed from the roof of the hall.

He said: They sat in the stonemasons yard for years before I bought one when my former boss retired. Its been in my garden ever since.

http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/News/Student-caught-relieving-himself-in-a-water-jug-at-Cambridge-University-female-college-Murray-Edwards-20140119105240.htm

A cheeky male student was discovered skulking around a women-only Cambridge University college - and relieving himself in a water jug.

The stowaway is believed to have spent the night in Murray Edwards College - unable to escape college grounds after hours.

He was eventually spotted by a unimpressed porter and sent on his way.

Students have to sign in guests to their college after hours.

In an email to the girls from the dean of the college he said the incident was “unacceptable” and requested “an explanation or apology".

A drunk man who brandished a creme egg as a weapon in Cambridge is due to be sentenced next month.

Michael Hampson, 34, of Maitland Avenue, Cambridge, pleaded guilty at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Monday to harassing people in the city centre on consecutive days last week.

Paul Brown, prosecuting, told the court: “On January 17, Hampson went into Barclays Bank, next door to this court, and began shouting racist abuse at a member of the cleaning staff. He had clearly been drinking.

http://www.romfordrecorder.co.uk/news/customers_warned_over_trolley_pound_pinching_at_romford_tesco_1_3234821

Pound-pinching pilferers have been using a special “gadget” to steal coins from trolleys in a supermarket, shoppers are reporting.

:o The scoundrels! A special gadget you say? What dastardly implement of misdeed could they have devised to carry out such a scheme?!

It is thought thieves have been using sawn-off trolley-release keys to carry out their crime.

... Is that it?

Still, spare a thought for the poor victims of such crime:

Jean Wright, of Gidea Park, a retired retail manager, claims to have been caught out by the thieves three times in the last couple of months. She says it has happened when she has left her trolley unattended.

“You leave the trolley to look at clothes or food,” she said, “then someone who has the gadget to remove the coin, steals the £1 from under your nose. You don’t realise until you return the trolley and wonder what happened!”

That's £3 you've stolen from this poor woman you b*stards, have you no shame?!

Havering Police urged anyone who falls victim to call the non-emergency 101 number.

No, no they didn't.

The Kilsyth Chronicle today proudly had pictures of the steel frame of the town's new health centre. The health centre hasn't had a foundation laid and the pictures were of a new shop getting built next to Lidl. Don't know why we still buy it every week.

http://www.eveningtelegraph.co.uk/news/local/drama-after-sign-outside-dundee-bar-the-social-catches-fire-1.185096

A Dundee bar was at the centre of a fire drama.

A member of the public noticed that the sign on the outside of the Social bar in South Tay Street had caught fire.

A call to the fire service at about 5.30pm yesterday allowed firefighters to stop it spreading.

Keith Dyer, of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, said: “At 5.37pm we were called to the Social bar in South Tay Street.

“There was a fire in the external sign on the outside of the building. Two units attended from Blackness Road.

“It was noticed by a member of the public. We isolated it and got the stop call at 6.01pm, and no-one was injured.

“If it hadn’t been spotted it could have burned for much longer and caused much more damage, so it was a good spot from that person.”

http://www.newsnorthwales.co.uk/news/130457/man-arrested-in-llangollen-assaulted-officer-and-fled-custody.aspx

At about 9pm he was confronted by an aggressive man. As they walked down the street he and his girlfriend were attacked by the man and three of his friends.

They were pushed and kicked before being able to run to the girlfriend’s car in the Hand car park. As they started to drive away the car stalled and both were dragged out, he was punched and stamped on, suffering a fractured left wrist and other injuries.

But when police arrived it was Roberts who was arrested.

As he was being driven away he saw his girlfriend crying on the side of the road, close to the group who had assaulted them.

He was in extreme pain because, as it turned out, the handcuffs were on a fractured wrist and he begged the officer to stop.

When he was ignored he kicked out at the perspex diving screen. When the officer opened the door he accepted struggling with him, but denied intentionally punching the officer and claimed the kick was reckless not deliberate.

Since the incident last August his life had changed. His girlfriend was expecting their first child, he had stopped drinking and no longer took cannabis and he was in full time employment.

BTW the North Wales police are total cnuts..

@rsehole lorry driver ...

A lorry driver who sped over a level crossing and destroyed a descending barrier as a train approached has avoided disqualification.

Daniel Saunders pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention following the August 12 incident at the Sawston crossing off the A1301, but escaped with nine penalty points and fines after Cambridge magistrates agreed he needed his licence to work and support his family.

Pizza dough spews out of Edinburgh recycling bin

A pizza restaurant is investigating after an avalanche of dough burst out of a recycling bin in Edinburgh.

The raw dough was spotted overflowing from a food waste wheelie bin on Crown Street, just off the city's Leith Walk.

An image of the scene was sent to Papa John's pizza chain by Ailsa Burn-Murdoch, who spotted it on her way to work.

In response, the company said it was "investigating this further directly with the store".

Obviously this isn't local news. The story's so big it had to go national.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2560118/Lauren-Goodger-jumps-round-puddle-outside-coffee-shop-friend.html

The URL gives you an idea about the terrible events that were narrowly avoided, but in order to fully understand the potential tragedy, you must read the article where you can also find out what kind of shoes they were, details of her breast enhancement surgery, and her mandatory tweet about the near miss.
