Usually enjoy your posts big yin but this calling positions and roles in a team by a shirt number is football hipster nonsense.

There's only 3 positions that should be referred to by number and its

Number 1 - Goalie

Number 10 - attacking mid

Number 9 - Striker

I’m sorry, but 6, 8 and 10 is canon.

PS: 5 is a left back and 3 is a centre back.

Nah mate, 3 has always been LB since the dawn of time. 2 is RB.

^^^very much this
It comes from the 235 formations from back in the day!!!

1. Goalkeeper
2. Right Back, 3. Left Back
4. Right Half, 5. Centre Half, 6. Left Half
7. Right Wing, 8. Inside Right 9. Centre Forward, 10. Inside Left, 11. Left Wing

1, 2, 3, 5 and 9 are the universally agreed numbers for the position that still go by the same name, arguably 7 and 11 still get used for wingers, the rest are just for hipsters!!!
