Following the drop in revenue after the government set a maximum limit of £2 stake on FOBTs, this isn’t a surprise to their staff. So FOBTs are keeping 700 shops open?

Following the government ruling bookies in general have seen a drop in revenue, although online betting is having a similar effect. WH is just the latest bookies to have to close shops.
LinkinFighter
Think there's 3 or 4 William Hill shops in Motherwell.

Each shop was limited to 4 FOBTs therefore the bookies such as WHs expanded like f**k. Now the reduction in the maximum stake has compounded the losses at these pop up branches.

Not such a good gamble for the bookies, then.

scottmcleanscontacts
Get them straight in the bin. I'm sad that people will lose their jobs but not at all sad that people might, hopefully, not have their lives ruined by these cash cows.I'm all for a bet on football etc but have never really seen the point in chucking money in a machine then waiting on an outcome that you have no conceivable idea of.

The ruling has probably accelerated something that was going to happen anyway A general downturn in the economy would be expected to hit the gaming industry as responsible gamblers will have less disposable income that they can risk responsibly There has been a steady movement away from betting shops to online bookmakers for years. https://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/PDF/survey-data/Gambling-industry-statistics.pdf It's also worth remembering that the money that isn't being put into these terminals still exists. It will be being spent somewhere else in the economy preventing other people's jobs from being lost.
