Any thoughts on Eliott Anderson, on loan at Bristol Rovers from Newcastle. 19 years old, he qualifies for us due to his grandmother but he has switched back and forth from Scotland youth teams and England's. Seems to be back with us now. He scored an incredible goal at the weekend for Rovers and got another good one last night. Mazy runs seem to be his speciality which has led his boss Joey Barton to compare him to Maradona!

Not seen the guy but I know he's rated quite highly. And doing well just now.

But he's playing in league 2, so he's not going to be called up in the short term. Maybe a loan to a Scottish Premier team next year might be a good thing for him.

He's been called up to the U21s, not suggesting he's ready for full side.

Players leaving Rangers is good because they never get a proper chance there regardless of how good they are. Players leaving Celtic is more 50/50, since their youngsters are more likely to get a shot, but their fans are generally very harsh on Scottish players.

Its hard to call, their probably less likely to get a shot playing at a much better team.

But more likely to have decent opportunities within the loan system.

It's impossible to tell. Tony Gallagher must have been looking amazing at 17 in the fact that Liverpool signed him. Is he a better player than he would have been if he had stayed at Falkirk and possibly moved up levels more gradually?

There are plenty players in the lower leagues who have played youth football for the big clubs yet there are plenty players at big clubs who played for smaller clubs and worked their way up.

Did Hickey really turn down Bayern to go to Bologna? If so he seems to have made the right call as it would be unlikely he'd be getting as much game time for Bayern.

This is an extremely tough call to make, how many opportunities do players get to move to these huge clubs? Can you turn them down?

I think ideally you want to get 1st team football at the highest level you are able to play at and move up once you have outgrown that level. Players shouldn't be making these huge decisions at 15-19yr old. Hopefully they have an agent/manager who really knows the game and can identify the best route for them.

Yeah I agree, but its impossible to say for sure. Maybe Gallagher wouldn't have progressed much at Falkirk. Or he might be amazing by now.

Im guessing leaving rangers produced a better version of Gilly Bilmour.

Its just positive that the big English teams and even the abroad leagues are now looking and trying to poach our young players more. Shows we're now doing something right in terms of development.

I agree and it is a numbers game. The more we have at top clubs then the more we are eventually going to see filter through.

We have top players in Robertson and Gilmour who came through totally different routes. One way isn't a guaranteed success and the other doesn't mean you won't make it. It is totally individual.

It is a positive yes, but it’s more to do with the big teams being restricted on who they can sign under the age of 18 due to work permits etc. this has forced them to look closer to home in beefing up / improving their youth teams

Thought he looked pretty shit tbh.

Falkirk had a few years where whatever youth player they had and gave a debut too was snapped up by prem clubs, came off the back of them having a few genuinely good uns.

Botti Biabi went for actual money to Swansea.

Scotland 17s 3-0 against Georgia at half time. From what I can see, a win would mean they qualify for the tournament as one of the 7 best runners up, with Germany 3-1 up against the Czechs.

While England have lost to Luxembourg and potentially heading out...

We actually needed to win by 4 goals to guarantee we'd go through (since it was only results against the top 3 that counted), but we won 6-1 so job done.
