Fullerene
In some American Atlases the country China has been mistakenly labelled Kitchenware.
get_the_subbies_on
The Oxford and Cambridge boat race started in 1968 after a couple of drunken students caught a brief glimpse of the dragon boat races on the intro to the original Hawaii 50 TV show. With no videos, they had to go by memory when designing their boats.
BillyAnchor
Irish rocker Phil Lynot was having late night swally with some mates and they were discussing unconventional birds you would pummel. The telly coverage ended and on seeing the Queen of England, Phil stated that if she was skinnier he would let her ride his pony until one was amused. They teased him about him wanting to hit Thin Lizzy doggy style till her colour trooped. Several years later he was in a rock band and remembered this name and hence the group had a name (it is unclear if he found the late night anthem to be as stirring as soon he only stayed in posh hotel rooms with ceefax after the shows ended).

Though in the first year of their existence they were known as Preston East End FC but they hadn't thought through what would happen when the initials were embroidered on their shirts.

Dalton was then selected as bond as a result of being permanently raging as a result of this. Everything in the living daylights actually happened and they just filmed him doing everyday things.

BrIan Blessed had starred on "Stars in their eyes" twice. On his first appearance he pretended to be Luciano Pavarotti. However his second appearance pretending to be Kylie Minogue (singing "I should be so lucky") was much more fun.

BillyAnchor
Buckfast tonic wine was originally made by a former pirate who gave up his life of rape and pillage to work in a monastery.
Dan Steele
The ring-necked parakeets that inhabit London parks are so called because they would often appear at public hangings in the 18th century. It is believed they are descended from an exotic parrot which a well-travelled person may have released into the wild.

Buckfast tonic wine is actually a contraction on Buckingham Palace Breakfast tonic wine. Apparently the Queen doesn't like grapefruit juice.
D.A.F.C
The uniform of the original London Bobby was brown. It was changed to dark blue due to the unfortunate link with some Scottish rhyming slang. They also used to carry around a drum as the first police force came from a military background. It was completely counter productive to catching criminals though.Hence the term bobbies on the beat.
