paranoid android
A light has suddenly appeared on my dashboard thing - it's a yellow light that says 'O/D OFF'. Any idea what this means? Somebody told me it's about emissions, but I'm not convinced - I did a Google search, but I couldn't find much - there was something that said it's an indicator of an issue with transmission - I do seem to have to use more revs to get some speed up - I also read that, as it's currently switched 'off', it just needs to be switched to 'on' - can I do this myself, or will I have to take it to my mechanic? If I can do it myself, any ideas how to do it? It's a Nissan Micra, btw. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers!
10 CC ICT
Button on the gearstick. O/D limits the revs to save fuel. Alternatively, open the windows and put the heater on.
lr19
Don't drive personally but from experience with family I'd say get a bike. Cars seem too much trouble
ICTJohnboy
If opening the windows and turning the heater on doesn't help, cover the offending light with a piece of black insulating tape. You won't have any more problems with it after that.

Granny Danger
Whatever you do don't drive with your hand on the gearstick, it will knacker the gearbox. No need to thank me.

paranoid android
Actually, what's the point of this button, if it makes your car less efficient? (which it seems to!)
ICTJohnboy
Actually, what's the point of this button, if it makes your car less efficient? (which it seems to!) My guess would be acceleration versus MPG.
paranoid android
My guess would be acceleration versus MPG. I got the impression I was using more revs and burning more gas! Probably not, though.
