You can feel the JLR products have been signed off by folk who actually drive and tune them to British roads.

Windscreens literally fall out of Evoques because they've not been sealed properly. You get about 2 months warning of them pishing water into the car every time it rains first though.

Yeah, tried that. Still uncomfortable, plus the fact I invariably got in on the wrong side.

Reminded me of a trip to spain with a friend, he rented a wee shitbox corsa to drive around. First time we were in it he drove around and parked up... at which point my left arm reflexively went for the handbrake and grabbed thin air. Muscle memory is a pain sometimes.

Have read the recent comments about Jaguar Land Rover being shit. I’ve currently got a Jaguar XE, had it now for three-and-a-half years from new. Hand on heart, not as much as a single squeak or rattle, or a problem at all…. Bar one thing. The infotainment system in the XE is rubbish at handling music playback from devices connected to the USB ports. First world problem, I get it, but overall, the Jag XE has been absolutely bulletproof. Better, and more fun, to drive too than BMW 3 series I’ve had in the past.

My neighbours got a jag saloon can't remember which one but it's fucking horrendous. It's been in and out the garage every 3 months with electric problems and the dpf is forever causing issues.

I can honestly say mine has been, along with a VW Golf I had, the most trouble-free, problem-free, rattle or squeak-free, car I’ve ever owned…. Feckin’ thing is going to break down on the Kingston Bridge tomorrow, isn’t it. 😜

Been covered in the thread before by randomguy i think but are jaguar engines not the exact same as ford transits, just kinda turned on the side

if you're happy with your car and its been trouble/hassle free for you then thats the most important thing tbh, friend of mine has a 21 year old audi s3 and he loves the thing - does his own diy tbf as hes a time served mechanic but he says its probably the sturdiest car hes ever had.

Going to add my (conditional) support for Land Rover.

The professed opinions on reliability are clearly based on reality and backed up by customer satisfaction surveys. My understanding on that though is it is because JLR are quite relaxed about throwing out 90% developed products for sale and then leaving the customers to do the (expensive) final 10% of product development in real world conditions, hence the horrendous reliability stats on their newly released cars.

However, for a particular model that has been on sale for a couple of years, it should (pah!, I know) have had these teething issues addressed and then, in defence of my own purchase decisions, an Approved Used one has had all these ironed out and then re-checked again by the dealer before being reoffered for sale with a fresh warranty. I'm on my second one in 5 years and other than routine servicing - at an independent specialist - and one set of tyres, that has been the sum total of the time it has spent in the garage. But then maybe I just got lucky. Twice...

It doesnt answer @Thorongil question on leasing but tbf, on a lease with a warranty for the duration on what are now well known cars, if that's what he wants, I'd say go with either; personal taste.

Although, because I'm an inveterate car snob who hates 4-cylinder engines, I've never had any of the Transit engined variants which I assume must be truly horrible 😋

I’ve thoroughly explored the lease option and it’s a bust. There’s basically no cars available. Earliest would be a Hyundai Tucson in April and beyond that July or August if I’m lucky for anything else.

Ah well. Will just need to be a PCP and maybe a lease next time.

Availability is one of the only downsides of leasing.

My current car is a lease which I ordered in February 2020. After a few delays (Covid mainly) it arrived in August 2020. I had a car on PCP at the time so it wasn't an issue but my current lease is due back next August and I'm already keeping an eye on deals. Unless I'm going for a car which is in stock (in which case the choice would be fairly limited) I reckon I'll probably need to look at ordering something around February or March and just hope I time it right.

Is buying a second hand car an option? If you'd prefer to lease so you get a new one then perhaps not, but if you would like a car sooner rather than later, you won't be waiting months.

Prices are high at the moment though, granted. Demand through the roof as new cars are being delayed because of a microchip shortage. Still some decent deals around to be had, though.

Has anyone noticed a drop off in fuel economy since we've moved onto this E10 stuff?

I think I read that there would be a marginal drop in mpg associated with E10.
More likely, however, that your observed drop is linked to the colder weather.

As already mentioned probably the temperature , you can more so notice it with diesel ,if it was dramatically down on mpg you could try a few tanks of super unleaded vpower or such but the momentum99 (Tesco) will problay be the cheapest of the lot (apart from Costco) and is still e5 .

Mixing E5 and E10 50/50 is claimed to sort it.

It's not huge, i've gone from 26-27 mpg to 24-25 mpg without actually changing my driving style that I've noticed.

Who knows that kind of thing? I put petrol in after the light comes on. If it comes back on I put more in.
