Has anyone here ever got out of a PCP deal before? I have recently moved jobs and I’m going to get given a work car they can be used for personal use as well and no longer need the car. Will be a few months until I get it and I am still due to have car for another 2 years.

You can settle the finance any old way. Eg you could go to a garage and see if they’d buy it back or we buy any car. If you have any negative equity you can just settle that part yourself. You can just ring your finance people for a settlement figure and forget about having to do it at the end of the fixed term. Might also be worth looking at when you can cancel the pcp. There’s usually a clause at the midway point when you can simply hand the car back.

Thanks, I’ll look into this further. Just wish I hadn’t bothered getting the car at all!

I've found Kwik Fit good and cheap for basic stuff like tyres and brake pads that they don't need to pay a qualified mechanic for, could be cheaper getting the timing belt done elsewhere, some cars you practically need to take the car apart and put it back together again.

D&G are very cheap for tyres/brakes. AVW on Gilmerton Rd are good with any VW group stuff too.

Stenhouse Motor Engineers is where to go, 195 Slateford Rd, Edinburgh EH14 1QA.  Check their reviews on Google to get a general feel for the place.

Failing that there's Brian Millars Motors just along the road past ASDA Chesser,  they specialise in German cars, although I'll be honest enough to say I know very little more than that about them.

I tried to change one once and broke a plastic fitting that connected it to everything else and had to get everything replaced. Get a man to do it.

Loads of Ford Focus s got recalled recently because of a clutch problem and when I put my car in they gave it a look over and quoted me £96 per front tyre as they were going slightly bald. A guy at work showed me black circles and they could get me £60 per tyre.

I’m getting rid of the car next year anyway so don’t want to splash out too much.

^^^ Ken’s the score. Always do this, the local guy always happy to price match and you’ve got the peace of mind that if anything does go wrong, he has a vested interest in sorting it out.

Price is of course important. But if you don’t give your local guys the chance of the business you can’t complain when your town turns to a dust bowl.

Will second this. Not used black circles yet but needing 4 new tyres shortly. Recently was at a local garage to get a puncture repaired and got talking to a guy who had ordered tyres thru black circles and said it was great but the garage owner told him he should have come to him before confirming the deal and would have done it cheaper.
