Cosmic Joe
RIP etc Impossible not to be tempted on going a bit Darwinian on this. Climbing a shitload of pallets stacked by a community of sectarian dullards was never going to be a wise move on health and safety grounds.
topcat(The most tip top)
Namibia won the toss and out Scotland in to bat A healthy total of 258/6 looks to be enough Namibia have 10.3 overs to get 98 runs but Scotland only need 2 wickets meanwhile the story of the day appears to be in Dublin as Ireland are in a similarly strong position against the kiwis
sophia
Cause of death utter idiocy misadventure. It has most likely been covered but by allowing these monstrosities to be erected in the way that they are, there is a failure in a duty of care and enforcement. That there is obviously a layer, maybe several layers, of consideration that prevents good sense prevailing and putting an end to this medieval nonsense, speaks of corruption that is utterly mortifying.

dirty dingus
Has this always been a thing? I've only seen it being highlighted for a few years, maybe they were too busy petrol bombing the police and burning out cars in celebrations than building bonnies.

Have the bonfires always been so big? No. Eleventh Night fires were traditionally much smaller. There were also many more than there are today, with more numerous modest fires constructed on street corners across loyalist communities. Over the years there has been a move towards consolidating the smaller fires into one central bonfire at the heart of each neighbourhood. This has partly been driven by a dwindling number of derelict sites for fires, but also by competitive rivalry among loyalist areas as to which can build the biggest bonfire. https://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/why-are-huge-bonfires-lit-across-northern-ireland-on-eleventh-night-1155604.html
