The 50 Most Influential Posters in P&B History

Recommended Posts

Standfree - the biggest bore on this site by a country broon. Have a w**k wee man, relax.

I think a bunch of guys that met up at the Fives have had life events that make meeting up a bit more difficult. Not that this makes up for the majority of attendees that seem to have vanished. However, a few socialise throughout the year and perhaps don't feel the need to attend in the summer?

Also, there seemed to be less and less actual forum poster turning up. The year the mods had a team (thanks Mr X.....) was huge. Hardly anyone I played against visited the site. It was purely a Powerleague tourney that a mate had heard of.

You're still not answering the question and I told you I don't want to hear about Facebook and twitter as I know fine well how they work.

Why can't you just tell me what rules have changed on this website? Just make it very simple as I'm not as clever as you.

You are the most argumentative cúnt I've ever experienced online!

The exact same rules that have changed on twitter, facebook, and pretty much all other social media. The rules concerning where the line is, what is acceptable, and what is not acceptable. This has changed over time on ALL social media. Honestly, this is not a difficult thing to grasp.

Is this really beyond your comprehension? Really? I think I've answered the question in as simple and direct a manner as possible. If others say that they are also struggling with the concept, I will try to find a new way of putting it, but I'm not dropping into baby talk just for you and nobody else.

I think the Fives this year shows that P&B, has changed since it started out. Most years the fives were discussed weeks in advance, and often were talked about for the majority of the close season. People didn't bother this year, so much so that Div has decided that this year was the last one. Posters did meet up with each other more often when I started posting, doesn't seem to happen as much these days it would seem.

I think the forum is as good as it has ever been if I'm honest. I love the #dece patter merchants (#marshmallo, #mhak, #lexi), but I can also understand why folk get annoyed at it.

P&B is to an extent a victim of its own success (depending on your point of view of course). It's immeasurably bigger than it was 5 or 6 years ago. It has far more posters and, as a result, there doesn't tend to be the same camaraderie as there was back then. When it was often the same 20 or 30 names posting in many a thread it was a natural development to eventually meet up. When there are several hundred it tends to drown out individuals much more. Personally I preferred the days when the threads were debated by Saint Sam, Hieronymous Bosch, xBassLichtie, whatever Musketeer Gripwood was calling himself that month, Ruggy, Joozy, Sensible, Mythical Creature, David W, Leith Jag, etc but things change and others will much prefer the boards even busier. It does tend to lessen the chances of a successful meeting function though.

Also I would tend to agree with xbl generally, though not in how he's phrasing it. The "rules" haven't changed, they were always there. The degree to which you could push them without incurring a ban has changed a lot though. It was near impossible to get banned in the first few years. Funny as he was Olaf sailed over the line time after time without anyone bothering much and it took several complaints from many, myself among them, before Pompey was finally banned and some of his stuff was absolutely disgraceful. Even after wishing death on every Muslim and saying he would happily kill them himself he hung on for a few days of complaints before he was finally jettisoned. These days he'd be gone inside five minutes.

Aye, those all seem like good points.

Edited to add in response to Skyline, I remember complaining about one of Pompey's posts, I think it was one of his usual Muslim type posts, and being told by a mod that he agreed that he thought Pompey was a racist, but that he was considered to be "good for business", and so couldn't be banned. Its much better now.

When the poster on a discussion forum become more important than the original reason for the forum, the forum becomes irrelevant, like Radio 1 where the egos of the DJs had or has become more important than the music played.

and children got scared.

The "good for business" remark was Div himself. Undoubtedly his low point in this site's history. To be fair I'm certain he regretted saying it very quickly. I'm pretty sure he knew Pompey outside the forum and it put him in a very awkward position until it was pushed so far he just couldn't ignore it any more.

Time Magazine do their 100 Most Influential People in the World each year, here's your chance to vote in the P&B equivalent.

With P&B just over a decade old, it seems like an appropriate time to put together a list of this nature. We're not talking about the most popular posters, or even the best posters, we're talking about the most influential. People whose posts affect the direction of threads, people who have shaped the direction of the website.

Remember that this poll will cover the entire history of the website, so don't just think about modern posters - think about names from the past who have stopped posting either because they've been banned or just because they've drifted away. Like any poll of this nature, things will still be biased towards the present day because a lot of posters won't remember the old guard, but there's not a great deal I can do about that.

To vote in the awards, send me a DM with your top 5 selections. Votes will be counted as follows:

1st - 5 points

2nd - 4 points

3rd - 3 points

4th - 2 points

5th - 1 point

In the case of tie-breaks, the poster with the most 1st place votes will be given precedence, then the most 2nd place votes and so on.

Actually StandFree, scratch that. As argumentative as you can be, you're still no' in the same ballpark as that intolerable fuckwit, Supras.

This is what happens when you live in a democracy and things are put to a vote, if you dont like the list f**k off to north korea!

Thanks for this astounding post, mate. Well played.

Anyway I much prefer P+B nowadays. I wouldn't say it's gotten worse at all and would have to agree with Marshmallo that those complaining happen to be less relevant than they used to #dealwithit

All you have to do is list the rules that have changed on pie and bovril. You could have done that in the time it took you type out that load of nonsense just there.

So what rules have changed? Just answer the question. Like I said, make it easy for me. I don't know why you are refusing to give me a very simple answer to a very simple question.

Nobody else seems to be having the problems you are having. As I said, I don't think I know how to make it any simpler than this (for the third time):

The exact same rules that have changed on twitter, facebook, and pretty much all other social media. The rules concerning where the line is, what is acceptable, and what is not acceptable. This has changed over time on ALL social media. Honestly, this is not a difficult thing to grasp.

Others seem to have grasped it. Have you considered that the problem here could be you?

At least you're not raging about it, or anything.
