Did East Fife pay a fee for Austin?

Yes, why???

Do you think they’ll donate it to the GoFundMe fundraiser???

Just find it a bit wild you're throwing transfer fees about for strikers then asking punters to pay for a vital operation (while also asking for a Championship price on the gate).

The club have not asked punters to help pay for for his operation.

Our podcast, off their own back have asked for donations to help support the player, who cannot do his day job at the minute either, due to a serious injury picked up whilst representing our club.

Yes, they're doing it to pay for an operation that your club clearly aren't paying for. Not against giving the guy support, just feel things like injuries that happen on the job should be covered by the employer.

We’ve agreed to have our pitch destroyed instead with to cover the cost?

you boys hoor yourself out to lowland league teams and scraps from the old firm and we’ll do what we can to sustain ourselves.

Not sure why you're throwing this stuff back in my face, I don't agree with it and I wouldn't agree with my club if they were paying fees for players while one of their own needs surgery. I doff my cap to those helping, just feel the club should be helping the guy out there.

Who said they’re not? From what I can see the fans are asking for £3k not £8k

Anyone remember the days when four blokes took a corner of a of a bed blanket and walked around the perimeter of the pitch gathering donations and dodging some over enthusiast fans. (With the the wee guys following them picking up the scraps).

We had the same situation with Gary Fraser 2 years ago where he couldn't get an operation on the NHS due to the Covid backlog. The clubs funds were depleted by Covid and the players started a crowdfunding drive which raised over £21k. Not only did it cover the cost of the op but what was left was donated to Back Onside.

No PT lower league club has injury insurance on their playing staff, the cost would be exorbitant, players are then left with the choice of private cover, which is costly as even part-time professionals are seen as a high-risk pay out by insurance companies, or going without, a vast majority of players choose the “go without” option as obviously we’re not talking about high earners here and paying for their own cover would eat up the majority of their PT pay packet. I’m not getting into the rights and wrongs of it that’s just the way it is!!!

We are also talking by about a free agent here, Sam isn’t under contract, the Club could simply wash their hands of the situation, wish him well and escort him to the door but they haven’t, if any detractors had actually read the GoFundMe page before jumping in with both feet, they would have seen that the cost of the operation is £8,000, the fund’s target is only £3,000, the Club have already paid a large chunk of it and also promised their support and the use of their training facilities and the support of the Club’s physio team in his rehabilitation all with no promise that he will recover sufficiently to play at this level or even if he does will actually sign for us again!!!

The Club has done the morally correct thing and a chunk of our budget has went towards his recovery, perhaps to our player signing detriment, the least other fans of this level can do is support this effort by the Podcast Team to raise the remainder rather than attempt to shit on it!!!
