The Clyde FC Summer Transfer Spectacular

Recommended Posts

With the curtain being drawn on another sensational season for Clyde, and our consolidation of being the 41st-best team in Scotland, thoughts must now turn to an all-too-short period of rest and relief for all. Keeping up tradition, however, there is a necessity to start a 30+ page thread containing all of the wildly inaccurate speculation and foolish optimism which seems to arise each and every summer. So here it is; may it be as entertaining as all those preceding it.

I'll try to keep an updated list of all those who have signed in this post over the summer.

Signed:

Jamie Barclay (May 2015)*
Nikola Rajovic (May 2014)
Brian McQueen (May 2014)
Iain Gray (May 2014)

Pat Scullion (May 2014)

Gary Graham (May 2014)

* Both now part of the player investment scheme so presumably given new 2-year contracts

Michael Oliver (invited to pre-season training)

Released/Left:

Paul Hay

would like too see mcbeth involved more next year as i thot he was outstandin in his first spell at the club but hasnt had the chance to proove himself this year. mcdonald is another 1 i look fwd to seeing, he,ll be a crackin player with a full preseason behind him!!

So, some speculation...

- Next year, kid's season tickets will be an under-18 one only. Hopefully, this means I don't have to pay as much!

- Scott Russell will be hitting the gym to work on his fitness difficulties over summer.

Alas, the chances of that happening are very slim (pun intended). We can also rule out Gunther constructing a coherent sentence at any point throughout the season.

That's Sean Fitzharris staying for another year as well. He's shown a few glimpses to indicate he has potential but not enough for me.I would have hoped we were aiming for better tbh, especially at this early stage.

Delighted Fitzharris has signed uo for another Year,

Single handed pulled us from two down at home to elgin on tue/wed night before xmas,But then got dropped followng sat

Assume duffy wanting him to do more work off the ball as not had a decent run in the team but IMO he is the most talented player at the club with the ball at his feet

K Nicol please be next or similar style player

Edited : No surprise Sloss Away,Tells you something when he was loaned out to Cumbernauld juniors for experience and couldn't get a game as previously posted

Well, we've already signed enough players to field a decent starting eleven. I'm concerned that with our poor budget we won't be able to sign a Nicoll-type player but whenever we have played without him recently we haven't looked too bad. I'm a little disappointed that Fitzpatrick and Sloss have gone but the former has only shown flashes of being a good player while Sloss' game was more about passing and being a dead ball specialist, and we have a few of them now.

I thought Fitzpatrick looked like he could player the sweeper type role in midfield quite well. Needed a lot of work on his on the balls skills but a bit disappointed to see him leave.

As I previously mentioned it's disappointing that Paul Hay's called it quits on his time at the club. I'm assuming it was his decision to leave because he's been an important member of the squad for the past few seasons. On the other hand, I'm delighted that Fitzpatrick's away. Absolutely useless.

I'm not sold yet on Fitzharris either, really. He really needs to sort his final ball out if he's ever going to be anything more than a third division player. Delighted that we've got Kieran MacDonald tied down for another year

Strange that we released Fitzpatrick to a sat amateur Team and then brought him back to release him

Confused.com

Would have liked to see him kept on for one more season but Sloss not great loss (Pardon the pun)

Even stranger when you consider he played upfront whilst at Milngavie, scoring 23 goals in 16 appearances.

Yip but not sure how far that level is behind Senior/Junior

You're right of course, but we never got the chance to find out. Deployed mainly as a stop gap, in the central midfield holding role when the squad was stretched with injuries.

Very true BullyforYou

Hope Daniel doesn't turn out to be another Chris Erskine or John Baird .. Both released and now turning out for premier league clubs

Best of luck to him and certainly I wont forget him putting Elgins Paul Millar on his arse during a recent 50/50 (Millar is nearly 7'' for anyone not aware!)

David Marsh
Lee Sharp
Ross Lindsay
John Neill
Stuart McColm (option of another year)
Kieran McGachie
Michael Oliver
Pat Scullion

What we reckon from that lot then? No idea about Lindsay and I'd imagine Coach Sharp might be contracted as a player just for a worst case scenario since he's still pretty fit.

Neill will be off and I'd not keep McGachie either. McColm is a certain keep, Marsh had plenty of good games and I'd play him at centre half ahead of Gray. Oliver kept getting better and is a good player to have in the squad as he's done a decent job in every position. The big question for me is Scullion, who has been excellent in the last few months playing just behind Watt. With Daly coming in I don't see where he'd get game time though. Suppose it'll depend on what his wages are.

Sloss was simply too slow and Fitzpatrick blew his chance yesterday. My big worry about Hay leaving is that Sweeney will end up captain :bairn

I agree Marsh and McColm should be kept on. I wouldn't object to keeping McGachie on next year, thought he's done well at times and even yesterday won a lot in the air when he came on.

I wonder if Ryan MacBeth will actually stay on, or leave by mutual consent. I like him as a player, and think he has more composure than most others, but he's had little opportunity this season and has been dropped after any good performance.

With Scullion I think it depends on how fit he can stay if he's not playing. As it's likely he won't feature as much next season I'd worry he may lose what little fitness he has found.

And, there's no way Gray should play ahead of MacDonald at left back. Though I must admit I don't like Iain Gray at all, have no idea what position he's supposed to play in, and wouldn't be sad to see the back of him.
