OLD PHOTO THREAD

Great thread by the way !!. The 1954 Kilsyth Rangers side were powerful by all accounts. They beat the Bens 6-0 at Shawfield in the Evening Times Cup Final. Kilsyth had future international George Mulhall in the team. The Bens did not have to wait long for revenge. A Tommy Douglas inspired Bens scored seven past Kilsyth in a league match early in the following season at Tinto Park.

Enjoy looking at the photos Tinto

Laurie Cumming, junior reporter of the Scottish Daily Express in those far-off, glorious days said after the Bens game that the Kilsyth team were the best he had ever seen in Junior football. Your right about the 7-3 thumping at Tinto, it came in the middle of a run of very high scoring matches, we had scored 38 goals in 9 games, and went on to win the Scottish cup that season. Your dead right about Tommy Douglas, he was so good that day that we signed him for the following season, he only stayed for the one season scoring 19 goals before returning to his beloved Bens.

Trainer Donnie McKerral in that pic is still a regular at Petershill, he was our sponge man for many years and has been a member of the football club for a long time. Showed him that picture the last time it came up on here.

A terrific thread! I was very interested in the reference to Donnie McKerral. I have being doing a possible matchday programme article for Worcester City FC on one of his team mates at Largs Thistle - Andy McQuarrie. Andy played most of his football in Engand. Both Andy and Donnie were capped out of Largs Thistle for Junior Scotland in the same game and according to press reports were the only two players to emerge with credit - Andy scored one of the goals and Donnie was described as being on "top form" at centre half. If there are any team pictures of the two together at Largs or Junior Scotland I would be pleased to hear.

Another two from the Pace.

First is the Dunipace side that beat Pollok in the 1/4 final 2-11 in 1980,there was a crowd of around 4000.

Second,Dunipace players and officials after the team defeated Arthurlie on pens in the sectional league cup final. The Fir park attendance was 1946,how times have changed.

Hope nobody minds me bumping an old thread,Im sure theres plenty of pics still out there!.

Denny Hibernian committee after their 1931 Scottish cup win.

The number of people on this committee would be a decent crowd at many junior games today!
