GordyBrow
I would also accept this but in our colours. We may as well look stylish while getting papped out of the division.

bigmacDFC
I imagine the trialists will be told tonight if they are getting signed or not.I imagine that will be the case for other clubs/players as well - so perhaps we’ll end up being the back up option for players on trial with other teams.I’m hoping Duffy has an experienced natural centre back up his sleeve somewhere. It’s bizarre we haven’t had a centre back on trial. The other area we’re clearly lacking is on the wing, only having 1 winger - but I’d be more confident addressing this via the loan market than I would be a centre back, where I feel experience is needed. But aye, hopefully some news tonight after training.
pleslie99
Some of the best centre backs in recent years for us have been young guys. Neil Collins and Stuart Findlay to name but 2
George Parr
Yeah, less than 48 hours until the first 'competitive' match and we boast a squad with 10 outfield players, 3 of whom are crocked. The pre-season from hell.
Rock Hudson
I’m told that we’re interested in Ryan Conroy along with Peterhead & Brechin. Peterhead being his preferred option.
Bring Back Paddy Flannery
I'm entirely unimpressed with Jim's approach to this window and he needs to do a lot to win me over now. It's also worth noting that had Stevie Aitken been overseeing such an uninspiring transfer window the knives would be out. I remember him scrambling around one year after a 3 week jaunt to Florida and everyone bar the Army wanted his head on a stake. I just think Jim has been very lazy with his signings and hasn't really pushed the boat out to retain or sign any sort of quality bar Carswell. If we sign McKee the midfield doesn't actually look all that bad if we can get a decent loan winger or the likes but the defence and strike force looks hugely short on any sort of quality at the minute.

the snudge
In all honesty the cup group is an extension on preseason. Glorified friendlies. I wouldn't panic yet, there will be alot of movement with loans and other clubs rejected trialists.
optimistic
Duffy would hardly retain players on less money, after saying our wage bill was too high. If indeed the club are skint, then bargain basement and young players it’ll be. Hey ho. Aaron Barry was another impressive young centre half
bigmacDFC
Findlay and Barry had, the vastly experienced, Andy Graham beside them.At the moment our only real ‘experience’ in defence is Jordan McMillan (106 league appearances) and he isn’t a natural centre back.I would have the absolute fear with a 18 year old loanee partnering Neill in central defence.

Can we give them one month contracts?

A pity that the League Cup has ended up this way, do well enough and get out of your Section and you could draw the old firm or hearts/hibs away and earn some cash.

It's stacked against us in terms of getting out of a group stage. With that in mind it's really an inconvenience. We can't play trialists so we need to either sign our squad before the cup or run with a short bench and risk guys who aren't at full fitness picking up knocks because we can't rotate them. They either need to abandon this group garbage and make it a straight up knockout tournament or allow trialists and give teams and free agent players a further 4 games for contracts to be sorted out.

Completely agree with this - it is too early in the season (Wimbledon won't have finished before the first games start, for goodness sake) and the format discriminates against the smaller clubs who have to rebuild a squad every year.

Most people are screaming for defenders and a winger which undoubtedly we need. But IMO we really need an out and out striker.Tierney, Layne dont fit the bill and Loy is obviously done.Where will our goals in all honestly come from?

Isn't that what it was designed for? Diddy teams aren't supposed to progress you know.
