Sons' sorrow

We're stuck with Duffy until the end of the season. I doubt that the board would want to start the search for a new manager and have to make that appointment relatively quickly. I think the best we can hope for is that they agree that Duffy goes at the end of the season regardless of what happens and that they start looking for somebody in order to make a quick appointment at the end of the season. Unfortunately the league we'll be playing in next year may well put some candidates off.

Duffy should be out the door for the absolute garbage we've seen this season, the terrible squad we've assembled and the garbage we watched last year. I suspect that others would have had strong conversations with Jim and would have been far more willing to try to hold him to account. It's a fiasco and one that we need to bring to an end.

If Aberdeen don't run up a vidiprinter score on Saturday - one that in the old Grandstand days would have the score in words in brackets just to make sure nobody made a mistake reading it - then Glass should walk after his first game in charge.

Saturday has 7 or 8 (eight) - 0 (nil) written all over it.

How many former players have scored against in the last few games?

Ben Armour, Ally Roy, even  Ballantyne in the defeat to Montrose.

We do not look like scoring at all.  Lowest goals for in Scotland (joint with Brechin).  Worst form in league 1. There's only one direction we're heading. Duffy should step aside

To be fair, most of the lower leagues is a merry-go-round for players and Dumbarton have had a massive turnover of players in the last 10 years. We are bound to be scored into alot by past players.

I’m always asked, who do we replace him with? I hate that managers usually refuse to fall on their sword, only looking out for themselves, and forget us, the fans, snd that we adore our clubs. What’s up with a bit of decency, and just go, minus the pay off.

What managers moving up?

It's kinda hard to walk away from something that pays your bills.

I doubt any manager that comes to us is financially solvent enough to be able to go without a wage.

We’ve been on a slow, lumbering, steady decline from the moment Duffy was left to build his own squad.

The recruitment has been like throwing shite at a wall and seeing what sticks.

The hoofball is fine if we build a team suited to that style - it’s worked for plenty teams in the past, but we simply don’t have the personnel for it and the fact Duffy is so unwilling to try something different is seriously starting to make my eyes bleed.

The “aye but who can we get to replace him” argument is ridiculous as well. We’re heading in one direction at the moment and we need a change - even if that means taking a gamble. I’d rather roll the dice and attempt to put up a fight than watch us go down like this.

If it comes down to money, then fair enough - the clubs financial future needs to come first, but how detrimental would a few seasons in the league 2 wilderness (and possibly lower if we keep up the decline) be for us?

Another embarrassing performance. It would be good to hear something honest from the manager instead of the usual cliche sound bites which he wheels out at any opportunity.

The other issue is the deafening silence from the board/club on our performances...

I don’t think I’ve felt this dejected and hopeless about us since the end of McCabe’s reign when we were anchored to the bottom of the third division.

The current situation and rapid demise of the club is completely unacceptable.

Duffy basically admitting he has no more ideas. How can we keep a guy in place who admits he's got nae idea how to sort this?

We can’t, but we will. If it has got to the point Duffy is admitting he has no idea how to fix things then I’d genuinely rather anyone was given the reigns until the end of the season.

Last night was the first I've watched Dumbarton this season. It's clear straight away that this is a squad lacking quality, lacking tactical direction, lacking specialist roles (natural wingers, natural full backs etc) and lacking confidence. Some of those playing last night showed brief glimpses of basic competence, others none at all, but all were equally poor and plodding and universally & obviously gave up after Airdrie scored.

Watching that team reminded me of the quickly assembled squad of jobbers that Jim Chapman threw together for the return to Div 2 in what was rumoured to be a massive cost cutting exercise after the expense of putting together a team to win Div 3.

I've felt that for far too long Jim Duffy has been trading on his reputation, but the unpleasant truth is probably that whether he goes now or at the season's end we are going down.  If we finish 10th it's automatic, if we are 9th I see hee-haw to suggest that we could overcome the Play-Off opposition.

I feel really sorry for all the young loanees who have joined a badly struggling club, they cannot be enjoying this and you do wonder about the exits of Dabrowski and Hamilton.

But whither the DFC Board in all of this ?  I've banged on about the lack of numbers on the Board and the lack of what I call 'football people', and both these aspects have now come into question.  Is anyone having the conversation with Jim Duffy, or are we maybe hoping for a miracle ?  Even worse, are we frightened to because that needs a Plan B ?

Presuming JD leaves at the season's end that will have to happen anyway.  Meantime it's going to be grim viewing for whatever games remain.  At least we get some money tomorrow.
