Sons' sorrow

This is why the Pixellot system should have been stress tested long before now. The Betfred Cup games are effectively now the test matches. Scottish football has to get it right for the start of league matches.

As for the game today? The only formation those players look able to play with any kind of balance is a 5-3-2, with a back 3 and 2 wingbacks. We can carry Forbes' lack of workrate if we have Carswell and Wedderburn doing all the grafting in the middle of the park. The only real width in that side will come from Quitongo and Wardrop.

We’ve been rotten.

That 3rd goal was a joke from our point of view - Wardrop making a total arse of it then we make 3 or 4 half arsed attempts at a tackle and they just breeze by our players like they aren’t even there.

We desperately need a bit of width and someone to carry the ball.

Hamilton has looked decent but that’s about the only positive we can take from that half. Duffy really needs to sort out this imbalanced squad asap.

Sam Wardrop has been awful. It looks like he has no confidence at all, just doesn't look like a footballer just now.

How many times are we going to play a ball a yard over the top of our 6'6" Striker ffs.

Also you could have driven a bus through that defense for the third goal there.

Jones doesn't have any idea where he's meant to be, positionally he needs someone else up there to keep him in an effective area. Out wide we've got nothing despite Chris Hamilton doing as well as he can for a centre back playing there and I'm amazed Duffy has signed such a bulk of the squad with so few options in that area. He has some real hard work to do yet again before we're close to being competitive in the league, and it starts next week. We don't have any pace in the team yet the tactic seems to be chase it in behind.

I'd kill to be inspired by a League Cup showing for just one year of my existence but sadly again it looks a bit doomy and gloomy.

You'd have to hope that you guys aren't done in terms of your recruitment, but the biggest problem for you is in the midfield where you're really light on legs but already stocked fairly well with numbers. Injuries look to have ruined Wardrop, confidence-wise at the very least, so I can see Hamilton back there soon enough. If there's a manager in the league who would get a tune out of that squad then it's Duffy, but on this evidence you lot look set for a bit of a struggle.
