Sons' sorrow

Regarding Aitken's trust comment, someone should direct him to his predecessor's speech at the 12/13 player of the year do about the club belonging to the supporters and how players/management are just passing through. It might still be Boghead Ranter's signatures on here but I'm on the app so can't see.

Moonster is correct in saying that he was could've been away after Bonnyrigg. If I'd been in charge that night, he would've found me waiting for him in the tunnel to escort him straight out the front door.

Quote

“Dumbarton Football Club belongs to all of you... we, the people who play for and manage are passing through. This being football, one day we will all move on, but you will still be here, because it's your club.”

Aitken ruled himself out of the Brechin job in the Sun today.

That’s very odd. Whenever players have been interviewed on the Pele Podcast, they’ve spoken very highly of  the setup at Brechin. I can only imagine it must be a distance thing.

It is, as @Ross Forbes has quoted. Bugger could've greenied me for something while he was in there.

Let's not get too carried away right now. I wasn't there last week but it was great to hear the goals filter through and learn about a much better performance. JD is a wise old bird though, and I'll bet that he's praying that Smith, Ballantyne and Thomas remain fit over the coming games because these really are the margins which decide games. Added to which I expect him to be rigourously scrutinising the squad with (hopefully) some comings and goings in the offing come January. Tomorrow will be difficult, but there should be much more about us than a month ago - let's hope so !!

I think the main issue with aitken other than results was the attendances and st sales. I'm not sure the club got the pricing right but the disappointing sales despite some quality signings should have rang alarm bells.

The support in the main, had had enough of Stevies tactics. Bar 2 wonder strikes he shit fest the semi, the final and the play off final. On top of all the other cagey games against bigger, or full time clubs

No one is getting carried away. The mood pre-match last week was one of philosophical equivalence. No -one was expecting an instant miracle but that was precisely what materialised. It was, considering the form of the opponents, the best Sons performance I had seen in years. Jim Duffy was emphasising in the local press this week that the result and performance were pleasing but that there was much work to do and we all realise that I think. I don't think anyone is getting carried away but it's nice to celebrate an emphatic victory - the first in a long time.

To be fair, I did get a bit carried away.

I don’t want to overreact to a single win, but I think we’ve won the league.

Aye at the game we did. If you didn't get carried away on the day then really what are you doing there? Overall though nobody is getting carried away in the cool light of day.

Think you missed the second quote in my post :P

Perhaps I didn't express myself well enough. After a year or so of watching dross it would have been unnatural if folk weren't eulogising about such an emphatic and unexpected win. It is a great start for JD, but only that, but there is a slight undercurrent of 'Aitken's oot, Duffy's in' and everything's hunky dory in some postings. It's not that simple, and that was my point about the three players I referenced; if they drop out for whatever reason then we'll feel it. One game at a time right now.

What was aitkens comment about the sonstrust? Can’t be arsed going back to listen again!

It sounded like a sideways dig at our Sonstrust director. The implication being that the trust director is friendly with the people who think it's time for a change etc.

I have to agree with others that he sounds delusional and "everyone's fault but mine" just about covers it. Disappointing because I think the board gave him a fair chance.

Delusional too in that he thinks his stock is high. I'd be surprised if he were to resurface in League 1 or higher.

"Many clubs are now run by supporters trusts. Don't get me wrong, trusts are a great thing, but there's guys there on the board who also hear what their mates in the stands are saying, and they probably pull the trigger too early.”

That interview has done him no good at all, and I can’t disagree with what Wilf or Moonster have said on the matter. Does he really think he’d have been sacked if our results had been decent, but the fans just hadn’t taken to him? Not a chance. Given the work the Trust have done to back him it’s especially ungrateful. Without the trust he would’ve really had a budget to complain about.

Like I said, I understand he wants to save face, but he comes across as deluded.

I think i posted before that he has the ego the size of a house...that comes out in what he is saying.Having a dig at the ST director is out of order. He was punted because the football and results were shite. Bottom line.
