Belfast Council remove Union Flag

~~~
It's going to b like the BNP protest outside Kenny Mc's office during the summer. About 20 fat ex-casuals all with old worn out stone island jumpers on, all shouting abuse at an empty office. They were escorted by a fair few police and there was a helicopter overhead.
If you didn't know who it was, it looked like a bunch of middle aged men looking for a pub. The police indulged them for half an hour then spit them up, I've never seen such a nonevent.
The herald is reporting that they are now going to protest at the Scottish Parliment tomorrow over the flag. They feel that 'unionism' is under attack and that they need to shout rude things at an empty building and two security guards.
The better together or is it better but no wi the Tories or libs together campaign need this like a hole in the heid.......
This might sound like a bit of a daft question, but what is "unionism" Can you not be a fan of the Union without feeling the need to well a bit of a fly waving arse about it?
Ken Magennis did not enjoy 'secular sainthood in Fermanagh/South Tyrone,he was detested by the Nationalist community because of his role in the U.D.R,he had a split Nationalist vote to thank for his seat
Utter fantasy.
If they hated him that much, they'd have tactically voted to get rid of him - as happened at plenty of other elections for that constituency.
Only his win in 1983 can realistically be put down to a split "nationalist" vote (that of 1986 only by stretching the point, as the Workers Party at that time's manifesto was very much "a pox on both houses") - thereafter Maginnis won by a clear majority over the SDLP and Sinn Fein candidates put together in four separate elections, his majorities increased at every election thereafter - this despite the demographic of the area becoming increasingly more "Catholic".
That Sinn Fein can now take and keep the seat despite a "unity" Unionist candidate (and the Alliance ceasing to stand) and an SDLP rival says it all - there was very much a personal vote involved in Maginnis long tenure in a seat that traditionally had swung more to Republican candidates than Unionist (11 times out of 20).
This problem began because politicians who couldn't find their a**ehole with a funnel decided to put the focus on something that would take the attention off the fact that they wasted 100 million quid on tourist attractions and can't create any investment or growth to pay for it.
However, never underestimate the incompetence of a Norn Iron politician because this trouble will ruin tourism in, at the very least the short term.
Just in case you doubt the incredible stupidity of a Norn Iron politician lets take one and outline 2 examples of policy decisions and/or proposals:
1. Remove the speed restrictions on newly qualified drivers because apparently by driving faster, it will result in a reduction of accidents and reduce the cost of insurance for younger newly qualified drivers. blink.gif
2. Turn a UNESCO heritage site into a golf course because apparently the tourism will be improved by turning the North coast into the golf capital of the World because people aren't interested in sites of natural beauty; the market isn't there compared to golf which everyone will come to participate in blink.gif
Now that was one clown who they moved to a job where it was felt he might not cause too much trouble. That plan worked well.
As for this flags issue, this was something that the Norn Iron politician knew would create a stir although maybe not bringing the economy to a halt but yet again that plan worked well rolleyes.gif
For the last 2 weeks, the politicians have been having meetings and doing nothing. The Alliance party are idiots imo and they have a lot to answer to for all of this but instead of suspending the decision, their supporters and opponents are prolonging this.
No it didn't. The problem began because politicians follow the orders of their puppet masters, the bankers. Creating tensions, divisions and formenting trouble between people is no difficult task for the many politicians who make a good living out of bullshitting. The main focus of people today should be on the fuckwitss who engineered the global financial crisis. Instead people are rioting over their dislike of street names and over issues that they have over flags! Some people are thick as f**k, it's no wonder crooked bankers around the world are rarely ever punished.
The only thing fantastical here is your claim that Magennis is loved by nationalists
And you are ignoring completely the antipathy that existed between SF and the stoops
For the benefit of those of us who don't follow Belfast politics as closely as others..
Stoops? What's that mean
Gimme a country that's red white and blue
Gimme the British way honest and true
Gimme the chance to be one of the few
Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme
Gimme a kingdom where people are free
Free to do and free to be
Free to screw you before you screw me
Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme
(Chorus):
Cos I'm alright
I'm alright, Union Jack
Fly the flag
Gimme a Britain that's got back the Great
A race of winners not cramped by the State
And only the helpless get left at the gate
Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme
Google Alex Attwood UNESCO and driving license; he happens to be SDLP but believe me Norn Iron politicians are much the same.
Oh and not that I'd want to suggest anything that could be construed as being potentially insulting but google
Arlene Foster husband land fracking
Sheds light on the type of incompetence that's done nothing to cope with recent events. While you're at it google
Sinn Fein Duke of Edinburgh award
The one that really takes the cake though is Martin McGuinness telling the catholic church that it needs to respond to the abuse crisis laugh.gif. Sure Alanis rolleyes.gif
Stiff Little Fingers probably did more for the Northern Ireland peace process than the politicians ever did, by getting through to two generations that both sides were a shower of evil w**kers wanting them to hate & kill one another so they could lord it over them, speaking not with the wishy-washy holdy-hands "we shall overcome" s**t of the various vacuous "cross-community" groups, but spitting much the same anger they felt about living in a land with no future for themselves because of its hypocritical morality and stifling "know your place" mentality.
They were right in never directly getting involved with politics themselves, that would have defeated the purpose of many of their songs like "Bloody Sunday" (about the idiotic Sabbatarian shutdown the "Orange" north was happy to copy the "Catholic" south on imposing) and "Alternative Ulster" - "it's up to you and no one else".
  • 3 weeks later...
Yip, The money, the women
plus, he is entitled to an Irish passport as he is from the island of Ireland
Tough times
:P
To be far to him, I hate playing golf in the rain.
It's also not an easy decision for him to make. If he choses to represent the UK or Ireland in Rio he's on a hiding to nothing from the "other" lot.
I can see why he's thinking of not going at all unless he can represent Northern Ireland (which he wont be able to, unless we blow the CDU right out the water next year :D ) so he's between a rock and a hard place nationality wise.
I have no idea and no wish to know what "community" he's from.
