Stuart MacKay and Barrie Stephen have both been linked with Caley Thistle in recent seasons.

Good luck to the squad.  :)

No Bryan Dlugonski or Kenny Gilbert!

If they are any call off I would bet you that Forres players get called into teh squad since theres a good few of them in Ireland for the next week.

Doesnt look like Kenny Gilbert or Bryan Dlugonski were needed as Scotland destroyed the pre tournament favourites Wales 5-1.

Eleven Scot Ads Highland league players took the field to represent Scotland in the first of this season’s Four Nations tournament matches which was against the pre-tourney favourites Wales at St Colman’s Park, Cobh.

The Scots could not have got off to a better start to the game as they took the lead after only 100 seconds. A free kick at the edge of the area, left hand side 25 yards from goal saw Martin Gunn run over the ball only to be fed by Neil Main, the Wick players miss-hit shot was controlled by Stuart McKay who flicked it over the keeper from six yards out.

Amazingly the Scots then went two ahead just four minutes later from a well worked set piece. Neil Main swung the ball in from the right, playing it deep to Scott Anderson who had peeled off at the back post and from 8 yards out and virtually on the bye-line he looped it back over the keeper and into the far top corner via a combination of the keeper and the goalpost.

The Welsh created their first opening of the game in the 15th minute when Ally Ridgers raced out of his box and was penalised for high feet. Darren Barnard swung the ball into the back post where Robbie Brown did enough to put Steve Evans and Marc Lloyd-Williams off as they combined to head it wide form 6 yards out.

Kevin Souter and Michael Stephen tried their luck for the Scots who looked the more dangerous even if it was the Welsh who were edging the possession. While those efforts didn’t trouble the keeper there was to be further joy for Jim Fleeting’s side in the 25th minute as Stuart McKay added his second.

Michael Stephen wound his way in from the right wing and drilled a low shot in at the near post. Tony Roberts got down low to save but could only parry and the Inverurie Locos forward was on it in a flash, lifting it over the keeper from two yards before wheeling away to celebrate with the trademark somersault.

There was a scare at the other end three minutes later when Ally Ridgers shouted for a ball he wasn’t getting that had been floated in by full back Searle. Giles looped a header goalwards from 18 yards but Ridgers ran back to catch the ball three yards off the goal line.

Stuart McKay looked to have kicked his last ball of the day when he ran off at half time with blood pouring from a head wound just above the eye, however he was to return bandaged up and ready to play after the break.

Half Time: Scotland 3 Wales 0

Wales needed to score early on if they were going to give themselves a chance of coming back into the game and they did exactly that. Owain Tudur-Jones a 6 foot 6 inch central midfielder pounced on a loose ball just six yards out to sidefoot it across the goals and into the far corner in similar fashion to Stuart McKay in the first half.

There was a moment of worry five minutes later when a long throw in from Chris Holloway saw two men go up with Ally Ridgers who spilled the ball (no foul given) to Owain Tudur-Jones who blasted over the bar from just three yards out with the goal at his mercy. Ally Ridgers then brought off a fantastic fingertip save to deny Chris Giles as the pressure was put on.

Things were getting very tense in the Scottish section of the press box when Wales appeared to have pulled it back to 3-2 after some hesitancy in the Scottish defence allowed Chris Giles to head home but fortunately the linesman’s flag went up, the whistle blew and within 30 seconds Scotland had clinched the game.

Stuart McKay ran at the Welsh defence before playing an exquisite ball inside the full back as Kevin Souter cut in from the right wing. The Buckie man controlled the ball and from the penalty spot coolly placed it beyond Tony Roberts to the delight of the Scottish bench.

It was very nearly five when Neil Main cracked another cleverly worked free kick that saw Martin Gunn dummy the shot and “Junior†move the ball to the left before firing it off the top of the bar from 20 yards.

The Scots went nap in the final minute when Steve Evans was penalised by climbing over the back of John Coutts. Martin Johnston stepped up and sidefooted the ball past Tony Roberts, picking out the bottom left hand corner.

The Welsh had a series of corners in the closing stages but the defence held firm to record the Scot’s finest win in the ten games they have played in this tournament and producing arguably the biggest shock of the Four Nations to date

Must be different Stuart Mackay's. We had the one at Peterhead on our books at one point this season, the midfielder, but don't where he is now.

Totally different player :D
