CallumPar
Re: McManus... I remember fans of St Mirren and Morton telling us the exact same about McMullan last season. Different players suit different clubs. Football is a strange game. Reilly was great at Queens, but awful for us, at the same level. McMullan was poor in the championship, then came into form with us. McManus was excellent at league 1 level with Morton. He was quick and a good finisher. He had struggled so far at championship level, but is only 22. In prepared to give him a chance. It may not be a signing that gets me excited, but it's a signing that I'm willing to see how it goes.Have never seen Splaine play, so I'm willing to give him a chance as well. Don't understand people writing players off, before even seeing them play for us/in our system.
Shandon Par
Why isn't Andy Barrowman modelling the strips? Wasted opportunity by Joma. 43 minutes ago, Dunning1874 said: This'll be a make or break season for McManus. Although he's still only 22, if he flops two seasons running there's a serious possibility he'll be viewed as the typical Chris Templeman/Greig Spence type of centre forward who tears the seaside leagues apart but can't cope at this level and might not get another chance here for years. Taking out the disaster he had for Raith last season, I felt people were overly critical when he was with us in 15/16. Yes, he did struggle a bit and obviously didn't look the same player he had in League 1, but even at that he scored 5 goals in 14 games. That's a really decent return, and he managed that while playing as a second striker supporting the main goalscorer, rather than his more familiar role of playing on the shoulder of defenders as the focal point of attack and doing them for pace. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't swap any of our current centre forwards for him and it's a gamble of a signing, but there are reasons to believe he can be a success. McManus seems like the kind of player who will fit well into our system (if he gets a game). Glad we've got him now so he gets a full preseason with us. It does underline the gulf between our ambition and the reality of who we can actually afford.
Poet of the Macabre
That'll teach people who complained about a lack of signings I guess. Clever strategy from the club I suppose. Wait until 2000 ST's sold and then announce the additions.

He refused to sign professionally and only registered as an amateur thereby preventing us from getting compensation from anyone if he left. He was offered a first team apprenticeship with us by Allan Johnston just before he left for Kilmarnock and then was lured to Kilmarnock by Johnston as soon as he got the job there instead. Made a first team breakthrough at the end of the next season but fell out of favour when Johnston left and was released last summer. As far as I knew he'd been clubless for a year but it appears he's played a bit for Stranraer 20's. Not sure if he registered for them or was playing as a Trialist. He was a forward when he played for us, and when he played for Kilmarnock as far as I know though I see he's now described as a left midfielder. You'll be amused to know he was at one point described as "the next Gavin Reilly".

Former Queens players have been a roaring success for us in the last decade or so.

Who'd have thought McManus wouldn't be the funniest signing of the day.
Grant228
On the Killie thread they view him as a central midfielder which makes a bit more sense, he'll be in instead of McCabe.
Rovers1992/1993
Came on here to see what everyone was thinking about the McManus deal and wasn't surprised to see Rovers fans laughing at this. In all seriousness though, I think he could do really well for you, if given the right service. He will work his absolute socks off in the games he starts. Not so much if he's coming off the bench. He started to come onto a bit of a game towards the end of the season as well by scoring 4 in his last 5 games. I'd have happily taken him back for next season. In saying that after M'Voto and now McManus... I wouldn't be surprised to see the Wonderkid, Scott Roberts, rocking up at your place soon. -
Stellaboz
There's no way he's brought in as first team regular, surely we'll be bringing in at least one more central player as there's only two if Splaine counts.
Parscelona
So three signings, two of whom were part of a side who got relegated from our league and a dude who hasn't played in a year... Awesome.
D.A.F.C
Mvoto and tam definitely caught the eye against us though. Still reckon we need a right back two central midfielders a winger and a striker.

The first game he tore our central defence apart, but that wasn't particularly spectacular as BRE was part of it.

D.A.F.C
Aye cos he's so fat and out of shape just now... He is fit but could get fitter and faster. He missed quite a bit of training through an early injury so I think we could improve him a little in terms of mobility.
