Walking Down The Halbeath Road

2 year deal. Nice to see his mention of ambition without having to use the phrase “back to where we belong.” Bonus points for that.

Interesting to see Cook describing this year in League One as a ‘reset moment for the club.’

Looks like his record of giving youth players a chance is what swung it for the board.

What youth players do we actually have though? Is the academy ready to be producing players yet?

I think we basically have what was the Fife Elite players.  Don't know what standard of player came across but we're not starting from scratch.

All for giving them a chance if they show potential but not getting shoe horned in for the sake of it. Our board are always banging on about youth but we are terrible at producing any good ones.

What youth players did he actually bring through at Dundee?

They had a young centre mid when they were in the Championship, he ended up barely playing?

Max Anderson one that springs to mind.

They had that Finlay Robertson lad, although don't think he's been playing much for them this season past.

If we could get a Gerry McCabe type assistant, it might work out.

I think McCabe actually was McPake's assistant at one point.

I think we definitely need an experienced assistant/coach. For me, this was Crawford’s main downfall, he brought in his mates rather than an experienced guy like Jimmy Nicholl to point him in the right direction.

I think ever single player who was at FEFA has joined us so should be a few in there, one day it would be nice to see Miller Fenton who is probably the youngest most fringe player that has actually been mentioned by name.

Harrison Sharp, Josh Mulligan, Finlay Robertson, Lyall Cameron, Max Anderson & Sam Fisher have all played first team games and look like they could be in or around our first team next season. All of them come from McPake's time as head of our youth. Few of them look like they could have cracking careers. Robertson is the one you mention. He looked very promising but has fell behind two of our other CM youths in Anderson & Mulligan.

McCabe was Hartley's assistant and was punted by McCann.

McPake's assistants were Jimmy Nicholl & Dave Mackay. Nicholl was just there as a 'name' really though - McPake punted him as the pandemic started. Dave Mackay is his proper assistant. He'll also bring in his brother-in-law Martin Harty as a coach no doubt.

Bringing through youth is great and all,  but it absolutely must be with the aim of making the first team better.   We could produce the next generation of a world 11 but If it doesn’t result in better results on a Saturday then it’s pointless.
