Walking Down The Halbeath Road

Recommended Posts

From what you can tell from a pre-season friendly.

Omar-did ok, then had his moment of madness,  being generous I could see him maybe get another chance, but that has to be a one off- any signs in training etc that he’s prone to it kills his hopes

Rice- composed throughout- could see him signing.

Paton-looks decent

Taylor- didn’t do much,  don’t think he’s worth pursuing.

Thought it was an ok game, despite the ref trying to ruin it after about 15 mins. No need for that red card in a friendly, leaving us with 10 men for 75 mins in our first outing of pre-season. Our guys looked knackered by the end. Result not important just now, but you could see what Grant is trying to get them to do. Much higher tempo, putting opposition under pressure higher up the pitch, when we’re defending. With the ball, it was simply ‘pass and move’ with the midfielders going into pockets of space to try and open the game up.

I liked the way Grant seems to want us to play. Thought Paul Allan looks a good player in that holding role that Flannigan (I think) used to play at Alloa. Seen him a few times and wouldn’t be surprised if he breaks into the first team this year, with the way Grant likes his teams to play. Always looking for the ball and looking for a teammate in space. Full backs bombing forward as well was good to see. Todorov looked lively and was unlucky not to score. No surprises that Grant knows how to have O’Hara looking confident and lively. Took his goal really well and was a great run to win the penalty.

On the trialists, Rice looked very good on the ball. Hard to judge whether a defender is championship level, based on a game v Spartans though. Oman looked alright, until his short back pass got caught out. Up to Grant to make a call based on what he sees in training. The guy was massive and I wanted to see him at set pieces, to see if he can use his size to dominate opponents.

Paton looked fairly lively and positive with the ball, without doing a great deal. Taylor was pretty anonymous. But as mentioned above, their teammates were tiring and we were down to 10 men.

What was the midfield that started? Seemed like Allen and MacDonald?

Was a midfield of Thomas/Allan. Back 3 of McDonald/Rice/Oman with Comrie and Edwards as wing backs. Front 3 of Ohara/McCann/Toddy with Ohara playing in the hole behind the other 2.
I was also impressed with Allan, very apparent from that game tonight that midfields are required. If Peter grant is looking to play with the formation that started the game we’ll probably see another couple of defenders sign (probably rice, who looked good I thought).

Deniz was in the stand, probably not enough time to get tested before the game. Also seen Marc McNulty.

Interesting. Wouldn’t have thought of Thomas playing in the middle but I suppose needs must.

McNulty would obviously be a fantastic signing but clearly not happening for a number of reasons.

We’ve got plenty of striking options. McNulty would be an outstanding addition for this level, however it is highly unlikely.

Exactly. We have plenty forwards, we could never afford him, even if he was getting out of his Reading deal and surely he’d have much better options available to him?

Guessing he’s maybe pals with Deniz from United and they just fancied watching a game.

Couldn't get a game for Stranraer when on loan last season... another who was promising at youth level but didn't kick on, surprised he's even managed to get a trial with the Pars tbh....

Surprised at how few games he has played if Wiki is anything to go by. Still, I think that’s a good signing and should be able to relegate chocolate wrists to the bench as back up.

It was him that injured himself celebrating a goal against us, was it not?

He did indeed. He did his cruciate while celebrating a goal against your lot in the playoffs a few years back.

I've emailed yet again to express my complete opposition to this shite.

A total nonsense.

What I don’t understand is why do the clubs keep agreeing to chat about it? They’ve said no time and time again - tell them to GTF and stick it in the bin for good.

Tbh I'm not sure how many clubs it takes to bring proposals to the table, if it's 2 then you could see why it keeps happening.

Obviously neither Airdrie nor Dumbarton are against them considering they have taken the coin at the first opportunity.

I don’t think they have a choice but to talk about it. Any club can take a proposal to be discussed by the other 41 clubs. There should be some rule in place that if a proposal has been refused it can’t be brought up again for discussion for at least 2-3 years.
