What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

On that note, I read this on Wiki.

The film is notable for an unbroken seventeen minute scene, where a priest played by Liam Cunningham tries to talk Sands out of his protest. In it, the camera remains in the same position for the duration of the scene. To prepare for the scene, Cunningham moved into Fassbenders apartment for a time while they practiced the scene at least twelve times a day, sometimes repeating the scene fifteen times in a single day. It is thought that the scene is one of the longest ever scenes in a mainstream film

That's quite interesting re the camera. The way that scene was shot gave you that fly on the wall feel, and the whole film was quite "real" in how it was shown.

It's a film I could discuss forever, but not exactly one I'd want for the DVD collection!

Likewise. It's not a film I could ever imagine watching again, but not because I don't think it is good.

What Just Happened?

A strange film, with a strange ending.

De Niro's character seems happy enough at the end, even though things went mostly tits up. He seemed on quite good terms with his estranged wife even though she was sleeping with one of his colleagues, and the original ending of Brunell's film was snuck into the final cut. The shaving of Willis' beard also goes unexplained.

Was quite funny though.

Also, did you see the Sands actor's body at the end? That didnt look like camera trickery to me.

He went to the US and was on some extreme diet of berries only and no more than 600 calories a day. Apparently he didn't believe he was losing enough weight so, against doctor's orders, had around 400 calories a day for a few weeks. Impressive and frightening all at once.

Waltz With Bashir

Not normally a fan of animation but this is a documentary-style look at Israeli soldiers trying to remember their actions during the invasion of Lebanon in the eighties. Powerful stuff with a shocking ending. 8/10

Just in from seeing this, and it really is impressive.

I'm not a particular fan of animation either, but it is employed incredibly effectively here and conveys a real emotional impact. It's genuinely powerful.

A brilliant, affecting film.

Right, if you two like it then I will try it out too.

I watched a double header of Life Is Beautiful and Remember The Titans today.

Both quality uplifting and inspirational films.

Baader Meinhof Complex - Engaging political examination of the West German urban guerillas that doesn't pull any punches. Quite a long sit at 150 minutes, and subtitled, which won't be everyone's cup of tea.

8.5/10

Jesus. That's character acting....

Very Daniel Day-Lewis.

I do not watch many films, but I made an exception to watch 'Das Leben Der Anderen' last night. It was an absolutely masterful film. 9.5/10. I cannot recommend it enough.

edit: "The Lives of Others" in English

That'll be 'The Lives Of Others" for us non-german speaking people. Agreed tho, it is a quality film.

The version I downloaded is called "Das.Leben.der.Anderen.German.2006.AC3.DVDRIP.XVID-GM4F" so I wasn't just being pretentious for the sake of it :D

I'm going to buy it on DVD because I enjoyed it so much.

Dean Spanley

Being a gentle U certificate, it's normally the sort of thing that I'd like but I did. It helped greatly that the legendary Peter O'Toole was on good form in it and Sam Neil deserves great credit for sounding very believable when he talks of his previous life as a dog.

The Hills have eyes.

One of the best re-makes I've seen in a long time. It's a horror film but it's not filled with typical horror cliches or ridiculous CGI. The direction and camera work are excellent and it really has you on the edge of your seat at most parts, particularly one of the fights between Doug and the massive mutant with the axe. Great film.

Ironically, I watched P2 (2007) tonight. Written by Alexandre Aja that also wrote the remake to THHE. He wrote a decent enough little story but sadly the casting director hired a couple of people that you just couldn't give a shit about to play the two lead roles.

It was well enough made by débutante director, but sadly with these awful actors you really couldn't hope for much!

It was watchable, nothing more.

I'm just back from watching this and it was really good, though I thought some of the prison scenes dragged a bit.

8.5/10 is a fair assesment.

Some of those R.A.F. burdz were pretty tidy as well. It might be worth becoming a socialist if that's the quality of fanny that is on offer. :D
