What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

Watched Senna last night. Basically a film/documentary made up of real footage about the career of Ayrton Senna. The film was really well edited and the story was like something out of a movie! The battles with Prost were fascinating and the latter footage of that weekend at Imola was chilling, especially seeing how pensive Senna was in his car prior to the race (and that whole weekend really). One of the highlights was when he won the Brazilian Grand Prix after having to drive the last 7 laps in 6th gear after a gearbox failure (and then faints in his car after winning). The driver's meetings were also fascinating, particularly his challenges to the FIA. I would recommend this to non F1 fans as well as it's just a well made documentary about an intersting character.

I never realised how much of a legend/hero Ayrton Senna really was but now I get it. 9/10

After the aberration that was the Crystal Skulls, I was looking through my meagre DVD collection and came across this wee beauty.

The original French version of the film Taxi (1998) written by Luc Besson.

Watched it last night and I must say, even with the subtitles, it's a very good fast paced film and stars, then little known, French actress Marion Cotillard. 8/10

Was a good film, based on a true story as well. The scene when he is trying to sleep in the bathroom with his kid is really emotional

Was it? It is ridiculously emotional and to be honest I didn't want it to end laugh.gif

Lawless

A prohibition-era gangster film, which feels a bit like a western, with some real comedy moments. Tom Hardy nails it. Superb.

9/10.

Seen adverts for this and it looks really good, glad it seems to live up to the hype! Been wanting a "western" film to watch for years, and thought I'd got it when I seen an advert last year, then aliens came into it.....

Casino (1995)

One of the Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese classic films! I loved every minute of the film and I'm now going to watching Goodfellas and Raging Bull as I have seen good things posted about them on here.

9/10

I'd say 8/10 as well, definitely well worth seeing.

I see it has vincent cassell in it, that's enough to merit a watch, i'll get on it, cheers.

Using basically this thought process, I've just watched:

L'Appartement (96) - Probably the first film I've seen that you would describe as a 'Romantic - Thriller'. Absolutely mental stuff  Played out like some Shakespearian farce. Considering one of the characters was an actress in a production of Midsomer Nights Dream, I assume this was the idea. One of those films which is so weird, you can't really work out what you thought of it. Unable to rate it on merit, I'm going to judge the entire thing on the quality of the two main female character's tits and give it a 10/10.

By the way, to those saying they like A Prophet and Mesrine etc, check out 'The Beat That My Heart Skipped', '36' and 'Read My Lips' for more good French crime stuff (the latter also starring Cassell).

Scum

It's a terrific movie. It's incredibly downbeat, but that's the whole point of the movie here. You never really get the sense that there's much hope for these kids, and any signs of hope are fleeting, and are usually beaten down. Literally. Not sure I can take anything away for the greenhouse scene either, because it's a key part of what comes in the climax.

8/10

Shame 6/10. Just couldn't really get into this at all. Fassbender is on fine form here but I dunno maybe I'm just too shallow/stupid to really enjoy character driven movies.

That's how I felt about Shame, it just never really got going despite a few good performances.

He was desperate to get his cock out imo. dry.gif

Just watched Drive again. 10/10 stylish. amazing soundtrack. Gosling is brilliant in it. the lift scene is an instant classic

Prometheus 4/10

Had high hopes for this when it was first announced and the concept was interesting in theory. However, this film is just a mess with a fairly dodgy script. There are a few decent performances mainly from Fassbender and Rapace but it cant save the film which is massively underwhelming and basically moronic at times. Poor, poor stuff.
