The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

4/10

My wife bought the tickets. I thought there was a good chance that it would be a disaster as one of the characters died during the making of it. That wasn't really noticeable, as the film is a bit weird, and for all I know there could always have been other Andys in the film (Law, Farrell, Depp). The storyline was the weak part of the movie. Lily Cole can actually act and is quite good looking, which shocked me, as the pictures I've seen of her did nothing for me. Anyway, save your money and wait until it comes out on DVD. Should be reduced to £3 in HMV within a few weeks.

Edit: 4/10 is maybe harsh, I'll give it 5/10 as I still don't know what to make of that film. I didn't hate it, and it obviously didn't bore me, as I could still feel my ass at the end of it. It was noticeable as a Terry Gilliam film, but when I came out the cinema, and now, I don't know what to make of it. I still don't think it was very good, and I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing, that I can't work up feelings about it either way. It's definitely in the 'neither agree or disagree' category.

Love and Death 8/10.

Oh for the days whe Woody Allen was funny like this. OK it had some poor jokes in it but most of it is hilarious. (Or mabe I was just stoned enough - who knows?) I'll forgive him for his pervy ways if he just makes another film like this or Sleeper.

Pride and Glory

Ed Norton, Colin Farrell and Jon Voight star in a film about a family of cops, some who are rotten and Ed Norton discovers this to his horror.

It follows the formula of cop films I guess, but it was well acted and decently scripted, so I'll give it 6/10

se7en 9/10

I've been waiting for some time to catch this and the hype didnt disappoint me.

easily the best that i've ever seen spacey play. Even if we really didnt get to see him til the last half hour of the film. Very good script and brutuality of the murders kept me interested throughout.

This isnt exactly a normal review, im planning on watcing Saw V tonight with the girlfriend, so im gonna do a quick review of the series. The first half of the series (1-2) were excellent in my opinion and i didnt watch them for the gore and "Torture Porn" i was hooked on the plot, mainly jigsaws character John Kramer. I think hes a excellent character and the only reason i watched the okay 3 and the utterly dire 4 was for the story of him becoming jigsaw. I think its safe to say that tobin bell is the main reason the series is still making money.

To give the films credit tho, they have proved once again that movies need much more than big hollywood budgets and tired big name actors to make a profitable film series.

I know wikipedia is legendary for its potential innaccuracys but i checked up on the budgets and box office gross of the series:

The first 5 films cost 36 million to cost and have made 668 million so far.

Ive heard that V is utter shite but im gonna give it a chance.

My Scores

I: 8/10

II: 9/10

III: 6/10

IV: 5/10 -

The parts with tobin Bell: 7/10

The rest: 3/10

I wish they left it after Saw II, although I can totally see why they continue to release new installments. I mean, they produced the first one for £1.2m and it grossed £102m. That's insane. I've heard they get steadily poorer, as I've only watched I and II. I reckon a big part is down to James Wan and Leigh Whannell leaving production; they seen how it was going after Saw III and, quite rightly, jumped ship.

You Only Live Twice

Personally i think its the best James Bond film just edginbg out Goldfinger. Tam Connery is just the perfect James Bond and makes them a very enjoyable watch. Like many films from that era parts just dont make sense and are so obvious to the viewer but thats why i love them. Every villian is desperate to give Bond the perfect execution instead of a bullet through the head.

9.5/10

Saw II

Second best film of the Saw's behind the 1st one. After that they really go down hill but are still average enough films. Lots of gorey moments which i enjoy as well as the usual twist at the end, everything you could possibly want in a film.

8/10

They should have ended it on III i mean jigsaw has had his throat sliced by ironically a circular saw, for me that should have been it, jigsaw is dead job done. But as i said i did like seeing the back story moments in Saw IV. If was director id have made saw III 30 minutes longer and mix in the back story of Jigsaw from the 4th installment. That way you learn how he became who he was then he dies and thats it, the angry scottish man gets his daughter but is scarred for life by that black guy being killed rather than redeemed and thats that.
