Into the Wild

really enjoyed it......you might too.

A young man leaves his middle class existence in pursuit of freedom from relationships and obligation. Giving up his home, family, all possessions but the few he carried on his back and donating all his savings to charity Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch) embarks on a journey throughout America. His eventual aim is to travel into Alaska, into the wild, to spend time with nature, with 'real' existence, away from the trappings of the modern world. In the 20 months leading up to his Great Alaskan Adventure his travels lead him on a path of self-discovery, to examine and appreciate the world around him and to reflect on and heal from his troubled childhood and parents' sordid and abusive relationship. When he reaches Alaska he finds he has been insufficiently prepared for the hardships to come. Despite making it through the winter his plan is ill-judged and prepares to return home in spring, only to find the stream he crossed in the snow has become an impassable raging torrent and that he is trapped. With no means of sustaining himself adequately he eventually starves to death in his so sought after isolation. Throughout his epic journey the people he meets both influence and are influenced by the person he is and bring him to the eventual and tragic realisation that "Happiness is only real when shared".

Fracture ( 2007 )

It's not that bad. It's not very good. I'm not sure where Anthony Hopkins is supposed to be from. At times he's English, at times Irish, and I could swear a Scottish accent came into it at some point. Ryan Gosling is nowhere near the star of the show that some people make him out to be. Anthony Hopkins is deliciously dark though. There are a couple of gaping plot holes which are too big to be ignored.

Control ( 2007 )

Very simplistic, and not overly dramatic. Depressing and deeply moving, this is a brilliant piece of film making. Sam Riley deserves to make something of his career after what might be remembered as a career highlight, playing Ian Curtis, while the supporting cast were more than good enough for the job. The soundtrack was excellently used and just mixed right in with the movie.

9/10

Utterly amazing film. Almost 10/10 for me.

A couple of movies from Sky today.

Slither ( 2006 )

Another one to fall into the "thumbs in the middle" category. There's some pretty sick gore here and there. Nathan Fillon was pretty good as usual, and provides quite a bit of comic relief. Not as funny as it likes to think it is, but there's some good wee frights here and there.

5/10

and then ...

Ferris Bueller's Day Off ( 1986 )

Brilliant stuff here. Ferris is a bit of an asshole, but an asshole with quite a bit of charm who cares really. The character of Cameron is terrific too. The climax is pretty tense, but in a terrific way that also manages to bring the laughs. At the end of the day, the title of the movie sums it up. It's all about this one guy's great day off, and there's a few cool things going on along the way.

Mr. Bean's Holiday (2007)

This was either going to be the worst film ever, as generally I hate Mr. Bean, or it was going to be passable at best. However, it really was pretty funny and the last ten minutes were great!

I'll give it a pass mark, without going overboard!

American Gangster - 7/10

Very good, but not great. Just felt it lacked something. The cop's story wasn't interesting enough and I would have liked to see more of the back story of Frank Lucas when he was a driver for his mentor. There wasn't much tension in the film and when the two main protagonists finally got together, it was a bit of an anti-climax - the film was effectively over anyway. Brilliantly put together, though and well worth watching.

That was my thoughts exactly when I saw it. It's got all the ingredients to e a classic, but it just doesn't quite deliver. It's lovely to look at and the soundtrack is pretty good too. When the two characters finally meet, they try to make it this "Heat"-like moment but it just doesn't work as well as it should.

If your into Wills previous movies you will love this, first film in a while I have properly LOL'd at. Pretty immature but bloody hilarious, some excellent lines in it.

Futurama: The Beast with a Billion Backs (2008) (V)

Was pretty fun, although early in the morning it was difficult to follow a lot of the in-jokes as they were relying too much on visual background gags, than verbal or main focus ones.

Guy X

Jason Biggs is a soldier in the US Army in 1979, mistakenly transferred to Greenland, to a base run by the crazy Colonel (Jermey Northam) and his smokin Sergeant (Natasha MacElhone). Although everyone just seems to get drunk and watch "Invasion of the Bodysnatchers", there is something more sinister going on... :o

Weird, but very enjoyable...Biggs proves his worth as an actor, rather than just some clown wi his cock in a pie... MacElhone is gorgoeus and puts in a good effort...Northam, is a great pyscho

Worth the watch

Day of The Dead - Enjoyed it thoroughly 8/10

I'm hoping to God by your avatar that you are talking about the original! The remake in 2008 was barely passable!!!

Creature from Black Lake (1976)

Fairly poor, but better than Swamp Thing which is basically the same thing. Plot was a bit non-existent but at least it was watchable.

Ocean's 13

Cracking return to form after the abysmal second one of the franchise. Felt more akin to the first one, and it was great to see Al Pacino getting the pish ripped out of him. Michael Corleone certainly wouldnae have stood for that kinda nonsense. And if it had been De Niro's 'Casino', it would have been Ocean's none in no time.

Good entertainment though, 8/10
