Stellaboz
Red Sparrow. Jennifer Laurence gets into some nice outfits as a Russian ballet star turned spy by her sincere sounding, but ultimately creepy uncle. She's eventually sent to state seduction school for spies in order to find out the identity of an internal mole. Plot is a bit stupid but she's always a delight. 6/10
lichtie23
Jojo RabbitBrilliant. Funny and poignant throughout. The boy who played Hitler was absolutely superb. 9/10SoulPretty standard Pixar stuff. Someone on here before said it reminded them of inside out and I agree with that. Music was good6.5/10
Comrie
Rim of the World By that talentless hack McG, where he takes a whole pile of better 80's movies like Sleepaway Camp and whatnot throws them in a blender, attempts to throw bad CGI on top to disguise a crap plot and fails to even do that. 3/10
jimmy boo
3:10 to Yuma Christian Bale is a poor rancher who ends up escorting a group of bounty hunters to take outlaw Russell Crowe to rendezvous with a train to take him to jail. Closely followed the Crowes gang who are determined to rescue him of course. Good interplay between the two main characters as Crowe tries to out psych Bale......8/10.

Flybhoy
Think it's been touched on here but, having Netflix I too ended up watching The Midnight Sky.... a positive write up and George Clooney starring and directing surely this will be a cracker? Two hours or so of my life I will never get back, mind numbing pish. Edited January 6, 2021 by Flybhoy

Relentlessly boring is what I think I said about it on here, or something similar.
Comrie
Message From the King Chadwick Boseman in a passable revenge thriller where he hunts down those who killed his sister in LA. He works with what he has and it also features paedo Alfred Molina and sleazy as hell Luke Evans. Disappointing as it is from the director of Calvaire, but it's perfectly serviceable. 6/10 Edited January 8, 2021 by Comrie
Twinkle
Shadow In The Cloud f**k me its bad. Like really, really bad. Chloe Grace Moretz is a WWII pilot who is travelling with confidential documents on board a plane where things start to go wrong quite quickly. Some of the worst scripting, acting, cgi, etc ive ever witnessed. Under no circumstances should anyone even waste their time on the trailer let alone the 80 odd minutes of nonsense that follows. I know a few people will be reading this thinking 'im gonna watch it to see if its as bad as hes saying'. Dont, just dont

JustOneCornetto
Black Narcissus (1947) Was going to watch the 3 part remake on BBC but decided to watch the film first. Powell & Pressburger did a great job of creating the mountain top setting considering it was all filmed in a studio in London. It's a story about a group of Nuns sent to the Himalayas to set up a school and a pharmacy in what used to be a Palace for the King's harem. Deborah Kerr is good as the young Nun in charge and David Farquar loafs around as the hunk getting these women's juices flowing and strange to see Jean Simmons playing the part of a young Indian girl trying to tempt the young Prince. It's not bad and we see each of the Nuns trying to cope in this alien environment to different degrees with Sister Ruth totally losing it leading to tragic consequences. 8/10
tongue_tied_danny
I went for a John Carpenter and Kurt Russell double bill last night. Big Trouble in Little China This is good fun, always entertaining. 8/10 Escape from New York A stone cold classic. 10/10
Detournement
Less Than Zero. It's a Hollywood take on a hugely cynical and cold novel which tries to insert a moral. It also takes out most of the punk/ new wave stuff from the book. The story is crap but the performances are good from Robert Downey Jr and David Spader. Bonus points for having Roy Orbison Life Fades Away over the credits.
UpInTheAyr
Under The Silver Lake.A quirky sort of whodunnit with Andrew Garfield. Bit weird and filled with pop references but has a certainly charm to it even though it's a 2 hours plus indie film
Ira Gaines
Synchronic VERY good. The one complaint I'd give is how self indulgent it gets. But it never goes OTT so it's a minor gripe. You also have Mackie turning in the performance of a lifetime beside a very good Dornan. 9/10
AthleticHeretic
Last Breath Arrested my heart! His extraordinary true story has been made into a documentary film, Last Breath. Edinburgh-born Chris, who lives near Mallaig in the Highlands, is a saturation diver. This is a specialised type of diving which reduces the risk of decompression sickness due to use of a mixture of oxygen and helium.
Comrie
Unknown Origins I think this is new today on Netflix, a number of murders are occuring in Spain where the victims are basically being tortured with superhero origin stories (bitten by a radioactive spider, roided up until their body gives out and a weapons dealer who gets his heart removed an out into a metal suit. This is a serious love letter to comics, where even the character names are homages to people/companies involved in the early exposure of Marvel and DC to Spain. You also get the benefit of seeing Veronica Echegui as an angry cosplayer (Sailor Moon, Black Canary and Bulma) which is a bonus. I honestly dug it a lot, probably as I am a huge nerd. 7.5/10
19QOS19
Soul (Disney+) is excellent. Watched it the other day. It just felt like there was something missing for me and I don't know what. Pixar are usually on the money but this wasn't up there with their best for me. I think I was expecting something more like Coco but with Jazz/Soul music which is maybe the problem. It took far too long explaining the beginning/the process and I began thinking "right let's get on with it". Apart from that the actual story was good though and it had the usual mixed in comedy and heartfelt moments you expect from Pixar. I did enjoy it, just not as much as I thought. I had heard it was basically another Inside Out with the soul as opposed to the brain. But Inside Out was head and shoulders above this for me.
