What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

Watched Megan is Missing last night.
The scene setting before the actual kidnapping was well paced, the last 20 minutes has some of the most brutal scenes I've ever watched.
Yeah it's verging on torture porn just for the sake of it. Check out The Poughkeepsie Tapes for something similar.

Clemency (2019)

It's slow so if you're an action movie fan it's not for you.

Brilliant acting from Alfre Woodard (Star Trek  First Contact, 12 Years A Slave, Scrooged) as a prison warden whose psychological and emotional detachment to  her Death Row duties come into question and affect her marriage (to Bunk from The Wire) and also to a prisoner who  she believes might be innocent (although this is implicit).

Apparently the producers of Megan is Missing wanted to make a film that parents and schools could show to teenage girls in order to get them to stop trusting strangers off the internet.

No idea if they succeeded in that, or were even allowed to show it to kids, but I certainly haven't been near the internet in years.

Spoiler

Saw it for a second time earlier this year and, despite knowing the barrel scene was coming, I still flinched. Horrible.

I think the message in Megan Is Missing kinda gets lost about halfway through. The first half certainly does a decent job of going for what they were looking for. Then it just turns into standard horror shock tactics. And then the first half of the movie is basically thrown out of the window and forgotten about.

All in all, it ends up being quite shite.

Silence of The Lambs - I'm not sure how many times I've watched this movie, but it's one I'd never tire of watching . Amazing performance from Anthony Hopkins with superb support from Jodie Foster ,everything about this film is great definitely a classic . 10/10

The Shape Of Water (2017)

Finally got round to watching this and thought it was an interesting concept of a fantasy love story set against a 60s Cold War espionage plot, I guess del Toro used this time period to highlight how certain groups of people were marginalised, the main star who was mute, her colleague at work and her friend who was gay. I think this is the sort of film that will stand up to several viewings.

7.5/10

Couple of ones here.

The Midnight Sky

Aggressively dull stuff here. I've not long watched it already forgotten the vast majority of stuff that happened.

2/10

Death to 2020

Hit and miss stuff here, but it's a lot more hit than miss so credit where it's due. Most of the characters get better as they go on. The real highlight is the "soccer mommy", which is probably the most on-the-nose character in the thing.

8/10

I'm not sure that the first half would have carried across the point that they were trying to make.

Which was clearly that WaffenThinMint could be at the other end of any phone line. BE A WEAR.

Just watched the always excellent Paddington 2 on BBC1 with my daughter. Great fun from beginning to end credits. You can tell Hugh Grant is in his element throughout.

Excellent, I thought it might have been me crying at the end, but it was clearly you.

I'm not sure it had to go to the lengths that it did though. The speed of the tone shift is pretty jarring as well, which didn't help those matters at all.

There's a movie called Trust that David Schwimmer directed which probably does a much better job of telling much the same story, albeit with no horror.

Midnight sky also.

Turgid shite and clearly a Clooney vanity project.

Repo Man

Cult classic from 1984 starring Emilio Estevez as a young punk who teams up with the legendary Harry Dean Stanton.

A bit too offbeat for most people, but I'm not most people and I fucking love it.

9/10

I absolutely loved this as a youngster but am wary of watching it again in case i'm disappointed.

Eventually watched Godfather 3. Wish i hadn't. It was ok, entertaining enough but completely unengaging and didn't even have the aesthetics of the other 2 to redeem it. 5/10

Just tried watching The Rock after it getting rave reviews on here. Had to turn off after 25 minutes due to unbelievable shitness. 1/10.

I saw an extended advert for either a new edit, or a remaster, of The Godfather III recently.

Lasted several minutes. Not a single shot of Sofia Coppola. Smart move.

Due to it being mentioned on here, last night I watched Meghan is Missing.

f**k me, that's 85 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

Don't blame us; it's not like we had you over a barrel.
