Decent stuff as Bond saves the us from WW3 and wins the girl , but it's looking to laok a bit dated nowadays especially some of the special effects. Uncle Hec played wonderfully by a grizzled Sam Neill goes on an adventure with juvie foster kid Ricky while avoiding search parties, police and creating national news coverage. Ha yeah the shambolic side of that life was reasonably accurate, i used to run about with a guy whose step father was a dealer and some of his associates were absolute idiots (some were scary dudes) basically their life was a game of idiots roulette until they eventually got caught and sent down, then on release they would do it all over again. Just a decent Hollywood “based on real events” effort where you don’t need any interest in the subject matter to enjoy it and it’s the personality clashes and human stories that really matter. A lot of acting required from Clooney ( a role turned down by Bruce Willis ) and Pitt , Andy Garcia as the comedy bad guy is good , Don Cheadle's accent is awful and seems completely out of place . Some decent turns from the support, also there's a nod to the original with Angie Dickinson in the crowd at the boxing match . jimmy boo Posted May 1, 2020 Share Posted May 1, 2020 (edited) Look Who's Back German language comedy film where Hitler appears in modern times on the site of his former bunker and is dismayed at the state he finds his country in. He is found by recently sacked TV reporter who sees him as an opportunity to make a name for himself. The reporter takes Hitler around Germany where he is actually filmed ad libbing with real members of the public who don't realise he is an actor and think he is a comedian or impressionist. Some of these interactions are quite eye opening both in support and opposition of Hitler. Funny take on 'that' scene from Downfall also. I liked it a lot.........8/10. ETA.......It's on Netflix. BFTD Posted May 1, 2020 Share Posted May 1, 2020 Rings - belated sequel to the American remake of Ringu. People are still watching that ker-razy videotape and getting bumped off, dontchano. Pretty much ignores the insipid second film, and has Darlene's boyfriend from Roseanne running university experiments on students who've watched the tape. Pretty mediocre, run-of-the-mill horror movie with a tired plot that feels overfamiliar, even down to the twists. BigFatTabbyBoy fell asleep halfway through and didn't even ask how it ended when he woke up, which is pretty damning. Sure there flaws in the story (Andy's amazing luck with the bible, the shoes and the posters) but Darabont's screenplay is wonderfully poetic and there are fantastic performances from Robbins, Freeman and Whitmore. Plus, he was under the warden's protection, so they weren't looking too hard. However, I vaguely remember that the original short story had him completing the tunnel and not using it for something like 20 years, purely out of the kind of institutionalised fear that gripped Brooks Hatlen. He'd had the edges rubbed off by the time he got to A Nightmare On Elm Street.
