Tonights tipple

21yo glen moray via smws.

Update: I haven't a great deal of cask strength whisky that age but it needed more water than I expected. Wasnt expecting such a sherry kick either for a refill hogshead. Its up my street but not what I was expecting. Would have thought a tiny bit smoother and subtle.

Who can tell me anything about this whisky? I was gifted this when I was born in 1987 with a label on the bottom advising it wasn't to be opened until my 18th which has long came and gone.

I think I'm going to keep it for my 40th or if we have another child. I came across it the other day when cleaning out a cupboard and although I never cared much for whisky before I've been starting to get onto it these last few years and realised I have no idea what to expect. Is it just what a standard bottle of Bells was back then?

What's the longest anybody has kept a bottle of whisky for?

So far this month I've bought a few bottles despite being unable to consume them.

Kilchoman UK Small Batch #2
Deanston 12
Deanston Union Release 2020

The deanston website was actually alright, delivery was £6 and had some bottles of theirs you'll not get elsewhere.

Looking forward to next weekends tour of the shelf [emoji1634]

That's cool. It's a nice bit of history and long since discontinued but a quick spin round the auction sites suggests it is not worth very much. I expect the sentimental value will be significantly higher to you than any monetary value. Get it cracked open and enjoy it.

Won't have much value but im sure it'll be significantly nicer than Bells is now and enjoyable to open up and try.

The caps have a wee disc inside which can fail over time but your bottle level looks not too bad for 30+ years.

I have 2 bottles ive put away recently for my kids 18ths. Hope they last the distance.

There is a ralfy video on youtube on storage, the answer is really dependant on the conditions you store it in.
