I see on Prime day theres Clynelish for £33 which is clearly a bargain, but one that jumped out at me was an Auchetoshan Sauvignon Blanc finish. Thought it would be a good wee comparison with the ever popular red wine finishes. Only think putting me off was the heavy "enjoy chilled" alarm bells all over it. Anyone tried that or similar?

I seen that as well and while the finish sounds interesting, it sounds like marketing for a poor whisky IMO. Happy to be told otherwise but I've tried young Auchentoshan before and it's harsh, cocktail mixer.

The Clynelish though is a must. My bottle is running low as it happens.

Edit to add I've tried white wine maturation once, Octomore 7.3 has some white wine or white desert wine casks involved somewhere if I'm not wrong. That is amazing and still top 3 I've ever had.

Hi folks, quick question here.

I'm looking for a high-quality laphroaig for my dad. The type of thing you can't get in a supermarket, and willing to pay between 100-200 quid (maybe a touch more).

Where's my best option to get the best purchase, and what should i be looking out for? The official website? Or is there a specialist site that's better to use?

There's nothing in the shop massively exciting.

2 options would be independent bottlings or Google Fèis Ìle for their annual festival bottlings.

I would say your bang to buck is more likely to be better with independent bottlings. Adelphi, Berry Bros, Cadenhead, Signatory, Douglas Laing, Hunter Laing, Gordon & Macphail, Hidden Spirits and Mckillops all worth googling.

You could also phone a couple of places. Royal Mile Whiskies, Robertson of Pitlochry and Green Welly at Tyndrum are where I usually buy independent bottles.

Locally you could try Luvians in St Andrews. You occasionally get something worthwhile in Aitkens but IMO they know f**k all about whisky in there so you need to know what you are looking for yourself.

Here's a couple I would enjoy drinking

No problem. TBH if you want to save yourself any faff the two I linked to would, I'm sure, be solid options.

Cracking open a bottle of Arran Sauternes Cask finish for the game, with a wee bit of added water (50% bottled strength) it is lovely.

The Amarone cask is already calling for my next purchase but I want to finish a half-empty bottle off first to justify it.

Have you had the Sherry / Quarter casks? Better bottlings than the finishes imo.

That said... All arran is decent, enjoy!

Ive got a 30yo Girvan from the Good Spirits Co 10th Birthday.

Lovely dram, about £90 a bottle. Still available and recommended!

It’s a sample of that very dram , and it’s really good, generally old grain whiskies offer fantastic value ( but whisper it , don’t want the prices creeping up like malts have done )

I'm planning on going to Arran this week with the forecast being glorious, so hopefully I can get to Lochranza in good time to try at least one of them for myself.

14 distilleries and a large hole in my bank account later...

Of what I picked up and managed to open the Clynelish below and Balblair 15 have been standouts

Currently having an Aberlour tasting session with a 12,16, casg anamh and a'bunadh.

Managed to get a dram of that Glen Dronach 15 in a pub in Glasgow before I went. Beautiful stuff and will savour my bottle

Glenallachie's 10yo batch strength stuff is great, and award winning. Batch 4 and 5 in particular are really good and I have both. They're on to batch 6 now which I haven't tasted. Heavily sherried.

They had sold out of that. The woman in the shop knew what I was about to ask and was close to laughing as I think everyone asks for it. Plumped for a bottle of the 15 which is the darkest colour I've ever seen in a whisky. Very nice it is too

If I was heading north of Slochd then Clynelish would be 1 on my list. Easily my favourite mainland distillery at the moment and they do a huge variety of different bottlings.

Picked up this and IMHO is a thing of beauty
