Steven Naismith says his future is at Rangers

Steven Naismith does not believe he has played his last game for Rangers despite deepening concerns over the club's future.

Further doubt was cast over the survival of the Glasgow giants on Tuesday when preferred bidder Bill Miller informed administrators he was withdrawing his offer.

Duff and Phelps are now urgently evaluating three other bids in the hope of completing a sale before the end of the season.

Most-recent events have meant further uncertainty for the players, who agreed in March to accept wage cuts of up to 75 per cent until the end of the season.

But Naismith - whose campaign was ended by a cruciate ligament injury in October - remains hopeful of fulfilling his Ibrox contract beyond this term.

Asked if he believed he had played his last game for Rangers, the forward said: "I've not thought about it too much to be honest and, personally, I don't think I have.

"I would like to think there is a team there for the 50,000 who turn up every two weeks and the 100,000 who travelled with the team to a UEFA Cup final.

"All these people need a team to support and, hopefully, at the end of this, there is a team there for them.

"It's not just a job, to come in and train every day and then play your games. It means more to everybody and it has shown in the results.

"I'm contracted to Rangers for the next three years and if the circumstances don't change then that's where I'll be. Definitely."

Naismith was the subject of a failed bid from West Bromwich Albion - reported to be in the region of £2 million - which was rejected by administrators last month.

He said: "There was a lot of speculation about it and the manager spoke to me and said there had been a bid made and it had been rejected.

"For me, there was nothing else to deal with, nothing else to do.

"The club had rejected an offer for me and that's fair enough.

"The administrators are there to run the club in the best way possible.

"Although it was flattering that someone would make a bid when I was injured, it was nothing I ever really had to consider as the bid was rejected."

With wages set to revert back to normal in June and administrators yet to find a buyer, it was put to Naismith that Rangers may have no option but to sell their top players come the summer.

He said: "Hopefully Rangers don't need to go down that route.

"As players, we want the best for the club. We have shown that in the past with everything that's been put in front of us.

"We decided to take wage cuts because we thought it was best for the club.

"The boys have gone out and performed in the last few months to give the fans something back for all their fantastic work and support.

"There is no one player who is bigger than the club.

"To be honest, unless circumstances change, the players will be right behind the club.

"But if different things come up, there will be decisions to be made. We will just have to wait and see what happens on that front."

Miller's £11.2 million bid favoured a 'newco' route to create what he described as an 'incubator' company while Duff and Phelps aimed to take the club out of administration through a Company Voluntary Arrangement.

PFA Scotland chief executive Fraser Wishart believes players may be free to walk away from Ibrox under such circumstances, while manager Ally McCoist wants clarification on the issue of whether players would be obliged to fulfil their contracts or not.

With a 'newco' yet to be ruled out, Naismith was reluctant to be drawn on the subject until he, too, has more information about players' rights.

Naismith, speaking at an event to promote Dyslexia Scotland, said: "To be honest, it's pretty vague. It's all ifs and buts.

"Some people are saying these are the rules and other people are saying differently.

"It's all up in the air, there is no one way that it's going to go.

"The players have shown what they are about by going out and performing when there's not much to play for. They just want a solution.

"Even the boys who weren't Rangers fans before they joined, they have seen what it means to people.

"They become fans. I would say the majority of the squad are now Rangers fans.

"In future, if they were to leave or retire, they will still look at Rangers' results and want them to do well. It definitely means more to the squad than just a job.

"We want the best for Rangers and hopefully that can come at the end of this.

"It's just frustrating that we are not further forward."

I just love the fact that their official name is now Sevco 5088 Limited. It's just laughable. The biggest joke around that doesn't actually exist!laugh.gif

Can think of a few catchy ditties on match days for that beauty, eh? "1-0 to the Sevco 5088 Ltd, 1-0 to the Sevco 5088 Ltd, 1-0...repeat to fade"....

HERE'S THE REASON, IT'S A NEW CLUB YOU FUCKING DUMPLINGS.

edit: actually it isn't even a new club, it's a dead club and a new company which may or may not own all the assets.

Never mind, they can always get Fat Sally and Willy Puller to turn out for them and I'm sure Mark Hateley, Gazza and the Goram twins would do a stint. If nothing else Gazza could give us a good tune on the flute. :D

That's 4 for a start, plus the other 4 you've mentioned, at least they'd be able to start a game.

Ahh, the gift.....................

So he turned out to be an ugly, money-grabbing, ship-jumping, balding, traitorous rat c**t. But surely I'm not the only one that breaths a fresh sigh of relief at the thought of him being absolutely nowhere near Ibrox ever again ?

A complete bomb-scare at the back and a headless chicken going forward.

Sayonara to one of the worst right backs I've ever witnessed in a Rangers jersey.

I look forward to seeing your career going down the toilet. p***k.

A property company with a stadium, training ground and car park. That is all.

It would probably have a better ring to it than the bigoted sectarian filth they like to spout a lot of the time.cool.gif

Has this actually been proven (the 4 OF games)? And have sky actually stated this? Last I heard was "we're a media company, we don't get involved", and them saying they had no intention of walking away from Scottish footbal? So do you have actual proof of the above?

Edited to add, this appears to be what they are saying:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2160798/Rangers-crisis-Sky-wont-pull-plug-TV-deal.html

If you have anything better though, by all means, share it.

Firstly, what was the point in putting that link up cos it doesn't contradict anything I said? On the contrary my little friend, it appears to back it up. They stated they would have to renegotiate the contract if there was no OF games. No influence though, right?

Secondly, the "we're a media company, we don't get involved line"....do you reckon they just drew up a contract with no t&c's in it?

As far as proving the bit about them actually stating the bit about the 4 OF games I have to say I don't actually have the Sky/SPL contract at hand. I think I left it upstairs but I can't be bothered going to get it.

Agent Green hardly contacting players etc and therefore clearly doesn't give a shite about Rangers or their fans and is only in this to make a quick buck from the next mug buyer.

Return to base.

Jesus, why aren't the supporters up in arms right now, why weren't they up in arms months ago, why have they basically just sat around on their arses for the past couple of years waiting for a Saudi prince to turn them into Man City? The one aspect of this story that amazes me the most is the complete and utter passiveness of the so called 'loyal supporters'. They marched to Hampden one afternoon, months after it was too late, whoop-de-do.

Now why would the 1st division want to let Rangers into the league?! At this rate they will have no players left, do they seriously think they will earn a lot of money from Newco?

RFC fans have made it clear they want blood.

What, more blood ?

Aren't they up to their knees in it already ?
