  • 20 point deduction for 3 seasons
  • £0 in prize/tv money from SPL (scottish & league cup is ok because they would play in that in div 3) for 2 seasons - also seeding for cup competitions removed for first season (entry to all at round 1)
  • transfer embargo for 2 seasons
  • banned from europe for 3 seasons

these would be fair

Re apply for a league position and go through the procedure that Gretna/Elgin/Airdire Utd etc have all had to go through before them.

That would be fairer.

I'm just reading this-

"Resolution 1 proposes an increase in the sporting sanction (points deduction) on any Club which suffers or is subject to an Insolvency Event from 10 points to the greater of 15 points and 1/3 of the Club’s SPL points in the preceding season."

"The greater of 15 points and 1/3 of the club's SPL points in the preceding season". Should this not be written the greater of 15 points or 1/3 of the club's SPL points in the preceding season? The word and in there makes you think you add on the points to the 15 point penalty.

So basing it on last season Rangers with 93 points would be fined 31 points, Hearts would get 21 points and St Mirren on 33 points would be fined 15 points theoretically?

of course, but the SPL have made their position clear, one way or another a rangers will be in their league next season one way or the other

The bright side on all of this is that it looks like Glasgow Rangers as we know them are going to be confined to the history books along with Third Lanark et al.

Now to make sure they get nowhere near the SPL......

Administrator's statement, seems that the Rangers prospective buyers are taking a step back.

The gist being "We're holding off until the SPL confirm that they will do f*ck all about us cheating over the last 20 years, and will let us back in no problem"

Aye you can just imagine prospective buyers fidgeting, saying "oh bugger, the rest of those c***s are trying to stop us winning the league."

I am probably reading too much into the statement but what it says to me is that at least one of the bidders must be proposing liquidating Rangers, if all of the bidders were proposing to take the club out of administration then these rules changes would have no impact on the sales process.

Duff & Phelps, administrators of Rangers Football Club, issued the following statement today.

Paul Clark, joint administrator, said: "As administrators we had hoped to announce today the acceptance in principle of an offer for the purchase of Rangers Football Club, which would be followed by a period of exclusivity while due diligence is undertaken.

"Regrettably, this is not now possible as we were informed over the Easter holiday period that the SPL is proposing to consider at a general meeting on April 30, significant rule changes in relation to clubs which find themselves in an insolvency situation.

"The effect of such revised measures being considered at this juncture is that we, as administrators are duty bound to inform those parties who have submitted bids of the proposed resolutions the SPL intends to consider. Failure to do so would constitute material non-disclosure on our part, which is a serious matter.

"Inevitably, bidders are now considering this information and will have to take a view as to whether it will affect their individual bids as they now stand. The result is a delay in the sale process. We hope to receive feedback from bidders as soon as possible in order for us to take the sale process forward as quickly as we can.

"We fully respect the right of the SPL to review its own rules and regulations and will not comment on the detail of what is being proposed for the meeting on April 30 at this stage. However, the fact that such measures are being considered at such a sensitive point in the sale process at Rangers is disruptive and regrettable. We hope to issue a further update by the end of this week."

As if it wasn't before this has now just gone beyond a clusterf*ck;

- As some on Twitter have pointed out basically the upshot of these rule changes basically legitimise, in fact *encourage*, the "phoenix" route in so much as a team in a points sense will be better off being liquidated and restarting than a team in admin.

- Add that to the tacit acknowledgement that Rangers in whatever form will be an SPL club no matter what.

- Meanwhile you've got H&D taking the huff and citing this as "disruptive and regrettable" to any take over (yes, that's TOTALLY your problem there)

- While it seems Rangersmedia is about to go into meltdown again as the loyal Rangers fans have no interest in watching a team in a league they can't win (*cough*).

The SPL are absolutely making this up as they go along though. Utter.Shambles.

Who is developing these proposals? Is it people like Doncaster or the chairmen of the clubs? If not the chairmen, then surely they can boot the Old Firm right in the balls by vetoing them in some form. If Rangers get right back into the SPL I'd be utterly sickened. I'd keep going to the Rovers out of sheer love, but my respect for the rest of the SPL clubs would go right out of the window. If Rangers fall out, then they have to be kept out.

Also, surely this is encouraging fraudulent activity in some respects as well? You can't exactly go about running up huge bills to creditors, only then to go "lulz cheerio, have 10p in the £. See you next season". The penalties on offer don't account for those who are screwed financially because some football club decides to chase the dream without keeping themselves in check.

Possibly not. If there were future insolvency events such as buying Ragers from administarion then liquidating them then re-luanching the Newco into SPL may have a financial impact on the bids as it would happne after the May date in all liklihood. I assume all the bids plan to liquidate unless you are a muppet fan's rep in the Blue Knights consortia. In which case you will never liquidate etc etc.
