It's laughable the way certain voices are trying to suggest that the whole Craig Whyte affair is somehow the fault of the SFA.

No one is saying that. Our debacle is our debacle and no Rangers fan is blaming the SFA. The whole Murray/White mess is a problem of our own creation.

What we do take issue with is Regan shouting about Whyte not being "fit and proper" 10 months after he assumed ownership and charging us for "bringing the game into disrepute" as a result.

Now it's pretty clear that Whyte is a total arse and certainly not a person who should run any business. We all know this now. However, part of the SFA's job is to assess this BEFORE a new owner takes over. Obviously Regan failed to do this. That's ok. However, after the shit hits the fan he then runs around shouting the odds and bringing charges against Rangers.

So the issue we have is not with Whyte being a shitebag. He clearly is. We also have no issue with the SFA calling Whyte a shitebag. They'd be right there. However, the SFA clearly failed in their corporate governance and now want to shout about it and that's what we have an issue with.

Regan/SFA passed Whyte as 'fit and proper'. They were wrong. Having failed in doing the basic job they now want to charge Rangers for the SFA's incompetence. This isn't blaming The SFA for our problem - it's just asking them to shut the f**k up about their own incompetence.

And what should happen now? Should the SFA conduct stringent tests on the various bidders in the frame to take them over now? What happens if they decide that none of them meet the criteria? Would be priceless if they did.

Yes they should and Regan is offloading his failure to do so on us.

This is the whole point of the 'fit and proper' test. The SFA have a responsibility to do it before a takeover not after. Doing it after (as has now happened thanks, mostly, to the BBC documentary) makes the SFA and Regan especially look an idiot. His get-out is to bring a charge against Rangers.

You missed Mark Hateley on Channel 4 earlier then. He more or less said that the SFA should have conducted some background checks and stepped in to stop Craig Whyte. There have also been numerous comments on recent phone-ins along the same lines suggesting a groundswell among some Rangers fans desperate to point fingers at those outwith the Ibrox set-up. Quite probably the same voices attacking sections of the media for not having investigated Whyte.

I do agree with you that it's pretty weak for the SFA to have come out after the fact and declare Whyte a 'not fit and proper person'. But then their weak position may be simply a symptom of Scottish football and the Scottish media being dominated by two clubs. Go against them at your peril.

So what do you suggest the SFA do regarding the 4 current bidders for your club? Should the SFA conduct a thorough check on the them? If they decide that the preferred bidder isn't 'fit and proper' should your club be allowed to die? Would you see that as a fair outcome?

Just asking.

Call me thick, but what would have happened had the SFA indeed adjudged CW not fit and proper at the time? There was nobody else about to take this poisoned chalice off SMM's hands!

We would have the same shambles as just now, would we not?

Absolutely great question. Gers fans are trying to have it both ways :P 'Leave us alone', 'protect us', err, what we mean is WATP

Why does Scottish football need Rangers if Rangers only win through financial doping and (together with the other lot) keep all other clubs too weak to compete?

Considering you lot ignored pretty much everyone in Scottish football until a few weeks ago. No sympathy. The hurricane of venom and bigotry coming from Ibrox would have been far worse if an SFA decision led youse going into administration much much sooner. Face it, up until three weeks ago the vast majority of Rangers fans still thought Whyte was not so bad and blamed Murray for their troubles even after the BBC summed up everything for you in a thirty minute programme.

The problem was Rangers fans could not accept their club was fucked. Thank f**k you will probably get away with such brazen disregard for Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs for so long, and your Arbroath supporter's club can feel all warm for "not walking away" from a second place finish.

My guess is that lawyers would still be arguing the toss over it.

I find this totally biased towards Rangers . No mention that they might have been cheating and that David Murray is quite happy to let Whyte take all the flack . Also , they relentless propaganda talks about the tragedy for our football if they go under . Last time I checked , our football wasn't very good and they are still here . Would be great if they and their ugly sisters GTF somewhere else . There, thats a line you don't see on the news or read in the tabloids. More is the pity

It might seem disappointing that there was no avalanche of 'new' information in Thomson's report tonight, but there's definitely reason enough to feel positive.

Compared to relying on the local, usual suspects to dig up anything, this well-respected, award-winning reporter seems to have none of the fear for his future that obviously hampers the local hacks. His position in the public eye has already badgered UEFA into talking to him (after he baited them on Twitter) and he will force the key players closer to accountability. He clearly understands the succulent lamb problem and has referred to it in his blog, yet is not constrained by it; he was thorough in canvassing the views of fans on all sides too. In my view this is a great step towards progress as the uncomfortable questions will be asked, and the SFA will be held to account if they do not act responsibly. There might not be new info yet, but this is a step forward from counting on 'paranoid' bloggers lacking clout.
