Ivo den Bieman
Ta people. Channel four tonight will be interesting...but Adam has already made his point, will need to produce something really special if it's to further rock the boat. I don't know. Whilst Adam's allegations re Rangers have already been made, the explicit linking of this crisis with a profound failure of governance on a programme like C4 news will set the cat amongst the pigeons somewhat. Not only will there be lots of "but but but" whataboutery from the authorities' shambolically poor press operation, questions will also be asked of why the Scottish media has kept its mouth shut about such matters, for so long. I still think it unlikely that Rangers will disappear completely as a result of all this. However, collateral damage from this scandal- i.e. the sweeping away of the empty blazers, incompetents, petty minded empire-builders, disastrous lack-of-visionaries, sawdust Caesars and numbskulls that have been left in charge of the Scottish game, would be extremely welcome. A sustained week of scandal-stricken coverage on national news would leave a lot of positions in the hierarchy untenable. If Rangers are demoted to SFL 3 then it may even call into question the point of a separate SPL with separate governance. The whole experiment has been a disaster from the very start and has helped entrench the money driven-dominated-byt-the-bigot-brothers model of football that many people have become so heartily sick of. We'll see.
thelegendthatis
Just heard a bit of the interview with Gordon Smith and Mark Daly - think broadcast on BBC radio. Smith getting all shirty about being challenged on his claim that Whyte didn't tell him what was going on. This is the guy who had the ability to take on a challenging (and well paid) role at the SFA and then didn't have the bottle to challenge wee Craigy boy! Might be worth a read of the following You are not generally responsible for the actions of other directors if you knew nothing about them and took no part. However, a court case in 2009 confirmed that where a director of a company was able to commit fraud because of the inactivity of other directors, those directors were also in breach of their duties to their company. In that case a dominant managing director had taken nearly £60m from his company, misapplying three of the company's bank accounts, and creating fictitious director's loans and false bank facility letters. The court said that, by failing to ask questions of the managing director regarding his actions, the other two directors were themselves in breach of their duties to their company. Directors must therefore keep themselves informed about what is going on in the business, and participate in its management, which means they should not sit by and let other directors act without being prepared to challenge them, no matter how dominant those other directors are. You are also expected to keep yourself informed about what is going on in your company, whether or not it is in an area that is your primary responsibility. It is therefore very dangerous for directors to turn a blind eye to anything going on in their company – particularly in relation to the company's financial situation. Directors can be held jointly and severally liable if they act in breach of their responsibilities. Check out that list of directors who existed under Murray and then Whyte! I would realistically expect Strahclyde finest (Fraud squad) to be chapping on their door at some future date. Ivo den Bieman
Perhaps the 'other 10' can resign from the SPL and rejoin the SFL.... I wonder if that is seriously being considered? If they can re-negotiate the SPL's inequalities in finance and voting they won't be interested in re-joining the SFL. Celtic, whatever else they may be, aren't stupid so would surely negotiate in the event of a Rangers-free SPL. Only if Celtic pig-headedly insisted on the status quo being maintained would collapsing the SPL become a real prospect IMO. Sadly, it's all about £££££££££££££ and self interest for the laughably named "gang of ten", just as much as it is for the gruesome twosome. The whole experiment has been a disaster from the very start and has helped entrench the money driven-dominated-byt-the-bigot-brothers model of football that many people have become so heartily sick of. We'll see. Read about Henry McLeish's comment that Scottish clubs will have to live 'within their means'. Well of course they will, now the taxman isn't going to continue to be a soft touch. But far far more important is that they sort out the governance of Scottish clubs and Scottish football. If the SFA had any sense they would be taking the moral high ground and putting things in place NOW. The door is open, all they have to do is walk through. Fit and proper test for those involved. Insisting clubs operate within the law like any business in the UK and meet their obligations (tax etc). But this must also apply to the SFA and the SPL. No more milking funding from Scottish Government, Lottery, sponsors for community projects that are merely a sham. The fit and proper test might mean some club owners having to bale out, some clubs will struggle financially as they will have to stop their current scams, but that is the price of getting it right. Rangers will cost Scottish football an enormous price for years to come, and we haven't even started yet. Unless we do something we will always be seen to be tainted. But let us use that to build something much better in the longer term. Edited March 20, 2012 by thelegendthatis

Sadly, it's all about £££££££ ££££££ and self interest for the laughably named "gang of ten", just as much as it is for the gruesome twosome. It might go a lot deeper than that. It may well be their self-interest is Scottish clubs or the national side being allowed into European competitions at all. If it turns out that senior figures in the SFA and SPL have been up to their necks in aiding and abetting a policy of one rule for Rangers (and by implication Celtic) and another for "diddy clubs", UEFA may well decide to throw the book at Scotland to set an example - debarring Scotland at a national and club level from all European tournaments for five years as punishment. Jumping ship and setting up a splinter from the current SPL or applying en-masse to rejoin the SFL would be just about the only way - if a desperate one with no guarantee of success - they could demonstrate they have no part or approval of what was going on behind the scenes at the top levels, since the first thing UEFA would accuse the other SPL clubs of is knowing very well what was going on but acquiesing in it out of self-interest (TV deal etc).
