Whyte gets word that Ticketus are sending the b(h)oys round to get their money back.

There you go, wondered how long the adult conversation would last.

By the way, Sky Sports News, what an invention! How did we cope before it!! My wife and kids loved sitting watching the same news and interviews over and over and over all night!

f**k it, kip time.

My stated intention in starting this thread was to generate some debate and to try and get away from the 'LOL fest' - been pretty successful, lots of good contributions!

Hope you get a good night's kip. Look on the bright side, William Hill have installed Rangers as favourites for next season's Ramsdens Challenge Cup.

How the SPL/SFA treat Rangers really doesn't matter too much.

How HMRC treat Rangers is a totally different matter.

My understanding has been for over a year now that HMRC want a court judgement in their favour because they have much bigger targets in mind.

They are not interested in any out of court settlement and if that course of action loses them money and puts Rangers out of business so be it.

I think Craig Whyte knows this and his pre-emptive bid to control the administration process is a last desperate clutch for a straw.

Enjoy the short term fun, but sadly Pozbaird and Reynard are spot on about the eventualities.

I've been spectacularly wrong before. I thought Mo Camara was an inspired signing following Hartegate.... then I saw him playing.

I could be spectacularly wrong again in my assertion that the shameless cheating cnuts are teetering on the edge of the shite barrel - but, as always, will come out smelling of roses. It's what past experience of Leeds, Motherwell, Portsmouth, Livvy, Dundee... insert name of a hundred clubs here, tells us. This isn't real. This is football...

Rangers are an institution. Mind you, so were Woolworths.

they will probably settle for 75% payment and the rest on catalogue payments, they will make sure RFC are hit very severley, RFC could sell the stadium name to the highest bidder to get a quick buck

there's as much chance of hmrc getting 75% of the money owed as there is of whitney houston doing the half time show at next year's superbowl

That's the thing that sickens me the most. In any other business, a company or individual who deliberately avoided tax would have the book thrown at them, and I would doubt there would be too many complaints from Joe Public.

vodafone got away with £4.2bn.

While I have no doubt that this is what the SPL will want to happen and will do everything in their power to make it so, UEFA would not allow this. This would totally undermine Financial Fair Play, and unlike when the Italian Football Federation allowed Florentia Viola to skip straight from Serie C2 to Serie B on the basis that they used to be Fiorentina, the Scottish football authorities have no power to stand up to UEFA. Oh, you're allowing a club who went of business to reform and go straight back into your top flight with no punishment whatsoever? Fine, your clubs are banned from European competition, and your national team can f**k off as well.

nothing happened when leeds started a new company.

celtic football club plc didn't exist in 1967 and the rangers football club plc didn't exist in 1972. association membership and companies are two seperate things.

As a supporter of a Scottish football club who has run itself properly and paid its way, I care how it pans out - especially if a weasel like Whyte rides into town and manages to make 49 million pounds of our money disappear in a manner Carol Vorderman and Ocean Finance could only dream about.

david murray is the one who dodged the tax. they should try and get them money back off him.

From my own POV, I don't WANT Rangers to die - but the undeniable truth is that they deserve to, and would do, if they were an engineering firm, a restaurant chain, or any 'normal' business.

normal businesses have customers and clients not supporters. football fans willing keep on shelling out money til the day they die, that totally subverts the normal business model. there is no point liquidating a business which is pretty much guaranteed to generate income for the foreseeable future.

The ideal situation is they get put to the 3rd or similar and turn shit. I hope HMRC shag them.

But they'll likely pull through. They'll be shit for the next few years with celtic winning the league. A 10 point deduction and denial to Europe next year is enough to please me anyway.

Funny how they sing rule Britannia etc when they don't even pay taxes that as the above poster said could go to soldiers. Yet if you speak to a rangers fan they'll tell you rangers is a club that supports Britain. Cretins.

Airdrieonians ?

The silver lining to all this for Rangers fans is that Craig Whyte has had months to plan his course of action. He knew the financial situation from the start, nothing major has changed from when he took over, this has been his plan from the start. He also must have known from the start that putting them into administration would make him very unpopular and if they were to go bust the knuckle draggers amongst the Rangers support would hunt him down and his life wouldn't be worth living. Therefore he must be very confident of a) making a tidy profit for himself and b) ensuring the club survives in some form or another. Obviously his judgement could flawed and going into administration takes the club's fate out of his hands to an extent, but by the sounds of things he has previous of this type of procedure.

I think they will survive in their current form, they wont win a thing for the next decade or so but they'll recover eventually.

I've been enjoying Rangers stream of bad news as much as anyone, but the course of action to save the club could create the single bleakest moment in Scottish football history for me.

I think it's highly likely inevitable that the governing bodies will be in favour of re-adjusting the rule book to save them. The level of vested interest, shared fiscal interests etc is so apparant that there isn't even much point in them behaving in a way which would suggest otherwise. Everyone knows the deal and is too jaded to challenge it.

If the clubs themselves are proactive in trying to keep Rangers above them however, then it's the final indicator that the game has reached a point of no return. The clubs who have been cheated, bullied and stolen from for decades, have to vote in majority in order to surrender (no pun) a league position to Rangers. If they actually do this, it officialises what we've tacitly been told for years. That the game is slanted and we diddies are number-making subordinates. Johnston at Killie was delivering the "we need Rangers" routine the other day. Ironic coming from a club who's resources have been pillaged as much as his. The battered wife analogy doesn't do justice to how guillable, scared and low in self-esteem guys like Johnston (and Petrie to be balanced) are.

That's all hypothetical anyway, to assume that Rangers would fold. What isn't clear is whether Rangers have already lost the tax case. If they haven't and this is just the pre-emptive beginning of the Govan Scrapheap Challenge, then it's adios to the club as we know it. I've always been of the opinion that Whyte is in full control of proceedings, and cares not one iota about the longtime welfare of Rangers. I'm starting to think now that he is maybe a little over his head. The backtracking, constant change of stories and the lowest common denominator victim complex strategy, is making me think that he might be making it up as he goes along

He is gambling but his stake is only £1. Nothing to lose but a lot to gain.

Anyone thinking "demise" for Rangers is deluded, it's not going to happen.

Mask: Slipping

If anything this is more of a reason for me to be happy. The fat w****r David Murray played his part in Airdrieonians demise and now I can enjoy watching his team fall.

Not to mention we got the chance to shag Clydewank and get a good wee laugh out of it so all worked out well in the end

Vodafone operate > 25% of the UK market share. You can get to a stage of being too powerful and wealthy to be touched. Just as Rangers are within the confinements of Scottish football.

HMRC do not operate within the confinements of Scottish football. They operate within the confinements of the UK economy, an economy where Rangers and its 50k spectators probably equate to less than 2 or 3% of it's sectors market share.

Scottish football is too cowardly / subserviant / unwilling to touch Rangers. The taxman really isn't.

the other spl clubs know how much money they need to run a decent squad.

killie, aberdeen, hearts and united owe over £50 million to banks between them. the idea that they will chuck out rangers (or their bankers would let them) when it could lead to following them down the swanny is mental.

if the the clubs have a chance they need to change the 11-1 voting and then let rangers back in. celtic will now doubt push for some sort of multi year points deduction and mad vlad could do anything but the 9 sane clubs will, quite rightly, be keen for business as usual

I'm no fan of Johnston - but his comments aren't really much more than an honest appraisal. The spin of the article is that we couldn't live without them etc, but his quotes are less definitive.

He is generally fairly shrewd in his dealings with the press in regard to the Old Firm, and tends to use these things as an opportunity to put a bargaining chip on the table - in this case the mention of a bigger share of TV revenues. I'm sure he has previously commented that we'd manage without them - funnily enough at a time when they were doing their "Give us more money or we'll move to England" routine.

Here are his exact quotes, for those who are interested.

“Celtic and Rangers remain vital components so far as the SPL and Scottish football in general is concerned. “The game here needs both of them to be in good health and I would never underestimate their importance in the overall scheme of things.”

“The Glasgow clubs have a bigger support base than any of the others in the SPL. They bring a large support to my club, and the rest, on an annual basis. “It might not be as large a following as it once was but their contribution to our income is very welcome.

“But my argument for changing the financial distribution model is that they need us as much we need the Old Firm. They need us to be competitive and make the SPL as interesting as possible.”

“There are financial pressures on everyone. We have debts to manage and are grateful to Lloyd’s Bank’s understanding and co-operation for seven years. “We need the Old Firm to be strong in Scotland because a decline in attendances means a drop in sponsorship and other revenues.

Even in the unlikely event of Rangers going into liquidation, a new "Rangers 2012" will be allowed straight into the SPL as "integral to the league's brand" or some such other utter hypocrisy. (code: "integral to the TV deal which will disappear without the OF derby")

If the Board of SPL are smart they will take this opportunity to dismantle the voting system of the 11-1 while they are at it and as a condition of awarding the share to RFC 2012

The opportunity to change the voting system is a very good reason not to let them back in (if it comes to that). After that, anything can happen - bringing back shared gates etc. (I'm not actually in favour of that one but a lot of people are).

The newclub Glasgow Rangers FC 2012 would have to apply for membership to the Scottish Football League or Scottish Premier League.

Unless Scottish football take the opportunity to quickly set up a pyramid system and we see Rangers 2012 applying to take part in the 22nd tier of Scottish football. :D

No-one hopes Rangers will die ...

Please, do not speak for me. (Or, do you actually know a person called No-one? In that case, I agree with him.)

see in relation to the figures i posted earlier, was thinking

if that is the case that would surely quash the mystery buyer theory because they would be having to spend £60m-£70m in the first seasonlaugh.giflaugh.gif

seriously unless this CVA is between 1p and 5p to the £1 they are destroyed biggrin.gif
