I'm originally from Greenock so I have a soft spot for Morton and earlier in the season, I didn't think this would happen to be honest.

I was under the impression Morton would start to pull away from Cowdenbeath and the other strugglers when the gap was still tight because they had played so well last season but they just wasn't anything in Morton's tank this season and Cowdenbeath and the others just pulled away from them. Morton shouldn't be struggling behind teams like Cowdenbeath, Alloa and Dumbarton.

If Dunfermline are stuck down in League One after the playoffs, I wouldn't expect automatic promotion unless Morton can get a couple of decent signings for that level.

I don't think chucking Kenny Shiels is the answer as I think he's the right kind of guy to get Morton out of League One. I think the club were already in real trouble when he arrived and he needs the chance to change the team around. The last thing Morton need is to be stuck down in League One for three or five years. They need to get back up ASAP and be challenging for the Championship in the near future.

Morton have missed out on money from big gates from Rangers, Hearts and maybe another fairly big team because of their relegation too and that'll be a blow to them.

Not arrogant; just better.

NB. 4) We didn't see our club being utterly hounded in a so-called 'neutral' semi-final, played at our own ground, in which the entire country pointed and laughed at the iniquity on display.

Which, as made perfectly clear to anyone who would listen, I considered a ruinous, stupid and parochial decision on behalf of the chairman and his usual brown-nosers in the 'Supporters' Trust', who think that the post code of a player turning out for the club is more relevant than their ability..

Rarely I take little pleasure from being proven correct on this occasion, yet correct again proved to be the outcome, in even a shorter time-frame than I initially expected.

Why you would even listen to this guys utterances on football is beyond me. His assessment of Morton (and Alan Moore's) capabilities alone put him on a par with Foxbarton as an insightful commentator on championship football.

Was a big part of the problem this season not players from other youth systems (Cham, McKee, Hands)? Adding to the players we had already taken from other youth set-ups, like Taggart, Archie, Fred. Isn't the problem that there was nothing there to ditch in the first place? Tidser and Millar are the exceptions to our terrible record of picking out and developing talented young players. "Previously successful method' - seriously?! List these other excellent players like Tidser then.

I think it might not be a totally negative for Morton to avoid the circus that the Championship will become next season.

It gives Shiels a chance to build a team in a weaker league where Morton would be one of the favourites for the title.

If they stayed up would Dougie Wonka have funded one more joust at the windmills of promotion to the top flight?

A lot of ifs and buts to still be ironed out. Will Rangers and Hearts be hit with points bans for being in administration, or even find themselves liquidated?

Will the Pars come up or fail in the playoffs?

It won't be a great feeling but it could be not half as bad as this clusterfuck of a campaign.
