Updated for the departure of Scotland's 5th longest serving manager, Mark Roberts after exactly 2 years and 7 months in the job at Ayr United. No word on a caretaker yet.

And again for John McGlynn's departure from Livingston.

EDITED to add - Ally McCoist is of course now "serving 12 months notice" at Rangers but remains the manager for now.

Updated again (it's like Picadilly Circus in here all of a sudden!) to change Dunfermline's manager from Jim Jefferies to John Potter. Clearly Potter is more than a classic "caretaker" appointment given that he's been given the job to the end of the season now so I've considered him a permanent appointment.

The flood of recent changes means that only 8 managers have been in charge more than 2 years, and only 3 have been in charge more than 2.5 years! And that 3 includes McCoist who seems destined to depart before the weekend. If he goes that will leave only Jim McInally (at Peterhead for 3 years, 2 months) and Dick Campbell (at Forfar for a fairly incredible 6 years and 7 months now!) as managers in situ for more than two and half years.

18 of Scotland's 42 senior clubs have changed their manager since the final game of last season (will become 19 if McCoist goes).

Only 18 managers have more than one year in their current job (again will drop to 17 when McCoist goes, presuming that's before mid-January).

Scotland's second longest incumbent finally departs his position at Rangers. As Kenny McDowall has been placed in charge to the end of the season I've treated him as a proper appointment and not a caretaker in the same way John Potter is. I presume none of the caretakers at St Mirren, Ayr or Livingston have been guaranteed the job for any period of time? Happy to be corrected if they have.

Without stating the blindingly obvious, if you're good at your job, you're going to move to a better position and if you're shite, you're going to get punted.

Not sure if such a startlingly high turn around is prevalent in any other walk of life though.
