The General Ross County Chat Thread

My personal take is that his best position is by far at Right Back. He’s strong on the ball, a great carrier of it and a great 1v1 defender. He’s also quick and fit as a fiddle so has all the attributes for a “modern” fullback. He’s played centre half recently for County and whilst he’s not struggled, so to speak, he’s certainly looked fairly uncomfortable. That being said, he’s definitely capable at centre back and he’s quick and good in the air. Be a good signing.

Trouble is he’s only about five foot ten, and most of the teams in the division launch the ball long fairly regularly.  I think he’s more than capable of playing centre half at a higher level, but struggles there in the blood-and-snorters Scottish game.  He’s an excellent full back because he gets to use his pace.

Would say its only in the second season that Gogic struggled, the first season I thought he was reasonably decent at what was asked of him. This season he was dropped at more or less the first opportunity, albeit whenever he came on he did seem to make an error every time - maybe a confidence thing after losing his place in the team.

If you were needing an athletic, harrying defensive midfielder without a huge amount else to his game then it's not a bad signing at all.

Clarke can get rag dolled and loses his man when competing at CB against bigger, stronger players. He is however, a fantastic RB (for County's level) and so far ahead of every other option we have at right back it's not even funny. Connor "Marcus Fraser-lite" Randall isn't even close to him.

It's a huge loss and my new year is already ruined.

If Hibs sweeten the deal by tossing us Gogic I'll be broken.

we already have two midfielders who excel in giving away cheap fouls (paton, callachan) so not sure what gogic brings that tilson doesn't

Surely Arsenal must feel kind of obliged to at least offer us another loan player , not as if they recalled Clarke to play him or that he was getting a lack of games here , he was quite possibly our poty! They are literally pulling him away to sell him to a rival so surely theyd do something for us considering we’ve just shown it’s a perfect place for their young players to get game time/ put them in the shop window

That's the feint hope that I'm clinging to 🤞

If anything it shows that the business/football model we've gone with this season works to a certain degree. It gives potential loan signings an example of how they can earn themselves a permanent deal on more £ than County can offer.

That'd be nice but ultimately they don't owe County anything. County signed the deal that let Arsenal call him back for whatever reason, & that includes selling him on. That's the risk you face when you build a squad of loanees.

Aye Arsenal should do the decent thing and loan us another player......Aubameyang is out if favour isn't he?? 🤔

Don’t think his recent attitude would be good for the squad!

surely Arsenal have another young defender we can put in the shop window or develop for them

hopefully grivosti is firing on all cylinders as his return may be key now

What has been shown is that if you work hard at County you will get the platform to shine and get the chance to move on. That has to be an incentive for others.

The sooner you come here, the quicker you can leave.

For the whole "stepping stone" thing to work, it has to benefit both parties. EG, getting a fee in for a player, having a sell on etc etc

With Clarke, we have lost our arguably best player to a league rival for nothing. Not a lot we can do about it, but this seasons plan of loaning in talent falls short when scenarios like this happen.

Donaldson to Dunfermline on loan confirmed by the club , must be needing a couple defenders now

Guess he's not been very good at County if he's coming to us? Seemed to do well with ICT in the championship though.

He’s a very good championship centre back.  He just doesn’t seem to have the confidence to take it up a notch.  He’ll probably do fine for you.

I second what savage Henry said , I actually quite like him and he performed well in the championship for us

Donaldson started off okay but he had a habit of switching off and making silly mistakes (usually giving away cheap penalties). Although that's a criticism which can be levelled at pretty much every County centre-back over the last three or four seasons.

On a positive note: signing him was a power move that probably kept Inverness Caley Thistle afloat.
