The General Ross County Chat Thread

Recommended Posts

I've thought a lot about this recently. Changing the management team is a very risky strategy. There's no reason to think it would be a panacea. Therefore, I'd stick with them but focus on fixing two main things:

  • Sign some better players. Naismith is a good start, but I think Roy would be best spending any budget he can free up on two or three others as well. Of course, we'd need to trust the management can identify some players better than what we already have, which is by no means a given.
  • Look at the injury situation. We're getting a lot of injuries. Is something wrong in training? Someone mentioned the sports scientist was released due to budget cuts? Get them back.

If we can do something on both of those points I think we'll get ourselves over the line and stay up. However, I'd be looking at making changes for next season unless Kettlewell starts to show he's able to make our squad more than the sum of its parts on a regular basis.

ETA: Of course, if Tommy Wright wanted the job, please disregard my point on not changing the manager.

Hmm. Zero details and whiffs a bit. All they needed to have said was "we've reviewed the footage and audio, and we've confirmed that Midge didn't say what at least four Rangers players/staff said he did".

Could also have confirmed what it was he was booked for saying.

County not having a clue when it comes to statements, nothing changes.

If you guys want some tips on statements,  contact Rangers.

It would be very helpful to know what the referee heard and booked him for, wouldn't it?

Isn't the compliance officer also looking into this? Maybe we'll find out then.

We'd end up giving it the big, "a cromulent statement embiggens the smallest club".

Very vague, but probably has to be vague as not to prejudice any other investigation.    Once those are concluded I'd imagine we will get to know for sure what Gardyne called Morelos.   "Fanny" being the most probable after County's investigation concluded.

Seems rather ludicrous that an incident that happened well over a week ago hasn't been finalised by the proper authority yet.

Yet in the mean time Gardyne remains accused of homophobic abuse and some fans even spread that it was racist abuse on social media.

I find it extremely unlikely that Gardyne was booked for calling someone a fanny on a football pitch. It's not impossible, but if referees were issuing yellow cards for that we'd have multiple red cards every game.

Maybe that it was happened, but I think it's a pretty low probability outcome.

I think less is more in situations like this. Remember our laughably OTT statement after someone running the club Twitter account liked a porn tweet? The statement was needlessly long, threatened police involvement and went on about conducting thorough investigations. It made the situation worse. A short, simple succinct statement is perhaps all that is needed.

What do County fans think, does Kettlewell's future depend on the next league game against Hamilton or is he safe for the season regardless?

IMO the cup game against Livi doesn't matter a jot, compared to sitting bottom of the league, struggling to score goals and staring at relegation.

Up to January we have Hamilton, St Mirren & St J's at home, with celtic and Hibs away, I'm always hopeful but I'm feeling more and more pessimistic we can get enough from these games, carrying on as we are.

Looking at those fixtures, I'm thinking it's too late to make a change that would have an impact before the turn of the year. Maybe RM will see what happens tonight against Livi but I'm genuinely concerned that this mini run is make or break for us. Not expected anything in the 2 away games but Hamilton and St Mirren are massive games, and StJ will hopefully take care of itself.

Personally, I'd make a change sooner rather than later.

Agree that the Livi result shouldn’t matter win or loss as the league is completely our bread and butter. But if we do lose at the weekend against, in my honest opinion, the worst team in the league then unfortunately there is no excuses anymore to keep him. Not even because Accies are the worst team, but 3 wins all season, one of which was due to a flukey free kick (St Johnstone), another a penalty (Well) and a scrappy goal (Accies). On another day, we could honestly be sitting here with 1/2 wins. We’ve scored 10 goals in 17 games which is just embarrassing - of which I know 2 are penalties and I can count at least 4 set piece goals of the top of my head which could be more.

We look a side void of ideas in all areas of the park. Ketts achieved a lot with us as a player but the longer he keeps dragging on this managerial spell which, let’s be honest, hasn’t been a success the more he is tarnishing his reputation as part of the First Division winning team. Would love for him to be able to turn it around and I really hope I am proved wrong but I just don’t have any belief that he can, unfortunately.

This is honestly one of the worst County performances I've seen (again). It looks like we're a man down, and another hamstring/thigh injury within the first 20 minutes. Aye, the cup is not the priority but we are absolutely honking.
